What is a macro?
A macro is a tool to create programming logic for Supply and Demand Interactive Planning Macros can: manipulate data, change the UI for the planner, generate alerts, or call other SAP functions in the system. Generally, they can do just about everything you could do with ABAP code.
The design considerations for efficient and well-designed macros are the same as efficient and well-designed programming

Using a function in macro
Functions can be called directly from a macro.

Calling a BAdI/ exit macro
The BAdI macro can be used to execute code that is beyond the scope or capability of the MacroBuilder Unlike a function, which returns a single value, the BAdI macro can return any number of values The implementation of /SAPAPO/ADVX is called when the macro is executed

Use case: Create a single alert when the condition exists in multiple cells
Use case: A single alert should be generated when the alert condition exists for a given CVC
Macro design:
Uses LAYOUTVARIABLE_SET() and LAYOUTVAR_VALUE() Creates a database alert

Why is this useful? Imagine a planning book with a long term horizon where 200 alerts could exist. Now imagine there are 2000 CVCs with this condition. That is 4MM alerts! Ouch. © SAP 2009 / Page 14
Use case: Calculate the forecast value
Use case: The forecast value should be calculated at the aggregation level in which the price is accurate, usually the product or product / location level. The price value is not valid at other levels of aggregation and should be “hidden” from view. Macro design: Uses collective macro with 3 steps for calculation Uses DET_LEVEL() and ROW_VISIBLE() for formatting

Overview
Depending on the settings for a key figure in the Planning Area, new options are provided in the Macro Builder to change the scope or layout attribute for a key figure.
These options are listed below and will be explained on the following pages:

Planning Area setting - Standard
In the Planning Area you have the chance to decided, whether a key figure can be fixable, if negatives are not allowed, if zeros are allowed or if zero is fixable. Any of those options can open additional options within the macro builder.
In general, you always have the options Value Change and Attribute Change.
Value Change The option value change is used for any kind of operation for a key figure to change the values, e.g. summing 2 key figures up into a result key figure. Nothing has changed.
Attribute change The option attribute change is used for any kind of formatting for a key figure, e.g. changing the background color, foreground color, etc. Nothing has changed.

Planning Area setting - Redisaggregate
As of release SCM 4.1 you also have the option to redisaggregate a key figure simply within a macro. Prior you had to use different tricks (e.g. +1 and then -1 or copy into values into another key figure, zero out and copy back), which only where workarounds.
