The colour of the Shackle pin is related to the supplier and not the Standards.

• Ensure that all markings are clearly legible. • Ensure pin is the correct type. Never replace the pin of a shackle with a bolt. • The threads of the pin and body are undamaged and the pin screws freely into position. • The body and pin is not unduly worn and free from distortion, nicks, gouges, cracks and excessive wear and corrosion. • The pin is screwed tightly with the collar and the pin is bedded evenly on the surface of the shackle eye. • The correct type of pin is used for the application. • A bolt type shackle has a split cotter (safety pin) attached correctly. • Shackles should not be heat treated as this may affect their working load limit. • Never modify, repair or reshape a shackle by welding, heating or bending as this will affect the working load limit.

ORDER CODE
Screw Pin Shackles mainly used for non-permanent applications. Bolt with Safety Pin Shackles preferable for long term or permanent applications or where the load may slide on the pin causing rotation to the pin. Also used on equipment that may vibrate to ensure pin does not become dislodged. Dee Shackles only used for single leg applications - never multi leg as the body and pin may distort. Bow Shackles can be used on either single or multi-leg applications. Grade M Shackles generally comply with AS2741. In accordance with AS2741 shackles should be marked with ://PDQXIDFWXUHUVLGHQWL¿FDWLRQJUDGHRIPDWHULDODQGEDWFK number. Grade S Shackles generally comply with Australian Standard 2741 with approximately twice the working load limit of Grade M Shackles. In accordance with AS2741 shackles should EHPDUNHGZLWK://PDQXIDFWXUHUVLGHQWL¿FDWLRQJUDGHRI material and batch number. Commercial Grade Shackles are not to be used for lifting purposes. Eyebolts
Care & Use
Eyebolts of 12mm or smaller should not be used in general lifting, staying or tensioning purposes, because high torsional stresses are easily induced in smaller sizes by being screwed up too tightly. When installing an eyebolt it should be screwed fully down to the face of the lifted load. Types of Eyebolts
• WLL markings are clear and suit the application. • Conduct a visual inspection for deformation and cracking. • Conduct a visual inspection of the inside eye for wear. • Conduct a visual inspection and check for damaged threads. • Ensure the thread centre is aligned with centre of eye. • Ensure the eyebolt’s thread form and the thread form in the corresponding hole or nut is the same. • Avoid excessive tightening of eyebolts. • Metric and imperial eyebolts that conform to the; Australian Standard have a safety factor of 6:1, DIN Standard have a safety factor of 5:1 and Grade 100 have a safety factor of 4:1. • When using eyebolts in pairs, it is essential that care be taken to properly align them. Eyebolts must not be forced into alignment as overstress will cause a reduction in the WLL. • A continuous sling should not be used with pairs of eyebolts. When lifting with pairs of eyebolts ed by slings, always use slings with individual lengths. Eyebolts should be inspected periodically by a competent person as per AS2317.
Forged Collared Eyebolts generally complies with AS2317. In accordance with AS2317 eyebolts should be marked with PDQXIDFWXUHUVLGHQWL¿FDWLRQWKUHDGW\SHQRPLQDOVL]HDQG WLL. DIN Standard 580/582 Eyebolts these eyebolts can be used for lifting but do not conform to AS2317. Normally supplied with metric coarse thread. Commercial Grade Eyebolts are not to be used for lifting purposes and should not be used for ing loads. Stainless Steel Eyebolts are not to be used for lifting purposes. *HQHUDOO\VXSSOLHGLQ*UDGH7KHVH¿WWLQJVDUHORDGUDWHG and can be used for tensioning.

Wire Rope Terminations Wedge Sockets Wedge - type sockets are used in lifting, pulling, tensioning and staying systems as a simple mechanical connection to steel wire ropes, especially where steel wire ropes may require shortening. One end of the wedge type socket is able to clamp a rope with a ZHGJLQJDFWLRQDQGWKHRWKHUHQGLVDEOHWRFRQQHFWWRDQRWKHU¿WWLQJRUDQFKRUDJH The wedge - type socket is designed for use on wire ropes up to and including 1770 grade wire with a wire rope core, however higher grade wire rope may be used, provided it meets the intent of this Standard. Metal or Spelter Sockets - Open and Closed The load is transferred between the rope and the socket forging or casting by means of adhesion between the rope wires and the metal or resin used in the socket bowl and subsequent wedging action provided by the bond between the rope’s wires and the metal or resin in the socket. Care should be taken to follow the correct socketing procedure. Properly applied poured socket attachments will withstand the actual breaking force of the wire rope.

The colour of the Shackle pin is related to the supplier and not the Standards.

• Ensure that all markings are clearly legible. • Ensure pin is the correct type. Never replace the pin of a shackle with a bolt. • The threads of the pin and body are undamaged and the pin screws freely into position. • The body and pin is not unduly worn and free from distortion, nicks, gouges, cracks and excessive wear and corrosion. • The pin is screwed tightly with the collar and the pin is bedded evenly on the surface of the shackle eye. • The correct type of pin is used for the application. • A bolt type shackle has a split cotter (safety pin) attached correctly. • Shackles should not be heat treated as this may affect their working load limit. • Never modify, repair or reshape a shackle by welding, heating or bending as this will affect the working load limit.

Screw Pin Shackles mainly used for non-permanent applications. Bolt with Safety Pin Shackles preferable for long term or permanent applications or where the load may slide on the pin causing rotation to the pin. Also used on equipment that may vibrate to ensure pin does not become dislodged. Dee Shackles only used for single leg applications - never multi leg as the body and pin may distort. Bow Shackles can be used on either single or multi-leg applications. Grade M Shackles generally comply with AS2741. In accordance with AS2741 shackles should be marked with ://PDQXIDFWXUHUVLGHQWL¿FDWLRQJUDGHRIPDWHULDODQGEDWFK number. Grade S Shackles generally comply with Australian Standard 2741 with approximately twice the working load limit of Grade M Shackles. In accordance with AS2741 shackles should EHPDUNHGZLWK://PDQXIDFWXUHUVLGHQWL¿FDWLRQJUDGHRI material and batch number. Commercial Grade Shackles are not to be used for lifting purposes. Eyebolts
Care & Use
Eyebolts of 12mm or smaller should not be used in general lifting, staying or tensioning purposes, because high torsional stresses are easily induced in smaller sizes by being screwed up too tightly. When installing an eyebolt it should be screwed fully down to the face of the lifted load. Types of Eyebolts
• WLL markings are clear and suit the application. • Conduct a visual inspection for deformation and cracking. • Conduct a visual inspection of the inside eye for wear. • Conduct a visual inspection and check for damaged threads. • Ensure the thread centre is aligned with centre of eye. • Ensure the eyebolt’s thread form and the thread form in the corresponding hole or nut is the same. • Avoid excessive tightening of eyebolts. • Metric and imperial eyebolts that conform to the; Australian Standard have a safety factor of 6:1, DIN Standard have a safety factor of 5:1 and Grade 100 have a safety factor of 4:1. • When using eyebolts in pairs, it is essential that care be taken to properly align them. Eyebolts must not be forced into alignment as overstress will cause a reduction in the WLL. • A continuous sling should not be used with pairs of eyebolts. When lifting with pairs of eyebolts ed by slings, always use slings with individual lengths. Eyebolts should be inspected periodically by a competent person as per AS2317.
Forged Collared Eyebolts generally complies with AS2317. In accordance with AS2317 eyebolts should be marked with PDQXIDFWXUHUVLGHQWL¿FDWLRQWKUHDGW\SHQRPLQDOVL]HDQG WLL. DIN Standard 580/582 Eyebolts these eyebolts can be used for lifting but do not conform to AS2317. Normally supplied with metric coarse thread. Commercial Grade Eyebolts are not to be used for lifting purposes and should not be used for ing loads. Stainless Steel Eyebolts are not to be used for lifting purposes. *HQHUDOO\VXSSOLHGLQ*UDGH7KHVH¿WWLQJVDUHORDGUDWHG and can be used for tensioning.

Wire Rope Terminations Wedge Sockets Wedge - type sockets are used in lifting, pulling, tensioning and staying systems as a simple mechanical connection to steel wire ropes, especially where steel wire ropes may require shortening. One end of the wedge type socket is able to clamp a rope with a ZHGJLQJDFWLRQDQGWKHRWKHUHQGLVDEOHWRFRQQHFWWRDQRWKHU¿WWLQJRUDQFKRUDJH The wedge - type socket is designed for use on wire ropes up to and including 1770 grade wire with a wire rope core, however higher grade wire rope may be used, provided it meets the intent of this Standard. Metal or Spelter Sockets - Open and Closed The load is transferred between the rope and the socket forging or casting by means of adhesion between the rope wires and the metal or resin used in the socket bowl and subsequent wedging action provided by the bond between the rope’s wires and the metal or resin in the socket. Care should be taken to follow the correct socketing procedure. Properly applied poured socket attachments will withstand the actual breaking force of the wire rope.

Commercial Grade Thimbles are not manufactured to any standard and are made from light gauge material. Normally used in light applications and supplied in electro galvanised ¿QLVK Stainless Steel Thimbles are not manufactured to any standard and are usually used with stainless steel wire rope when corrosion could be a cause for concern.
