INTRODUCTION

COURAGE

what is courage is an abstract concept. Courage is the quality that can enable a person to perform an extraordinary deed, even if the person has fears or is fearful. Courage is the strength to overcome these fears. Courage is to consciously expose oneself to danger in order to achieve a certain goal that is in proportion to the risk, but this ratio is positive for the goal to be achieved. The definition of courage depends on the person in question and their situation in life, and above all on the circumstances. However, one should carefully distinguish between courage and recklessness. Some people see their deeds as brave, even though they represent recklessness. A blatant example of this is a 17-year-old boy who sits down on the windowsill of an old building and sees this as courage. But in doing this, a high risk is taken without a specific goal being pursued. A typical example of courage, as is often exaggerated in Hollywood films, is person a who saves another person b from being run over by pulling person b out of the lane of a vehicle. This is a selfless act. It is therefore viewed by society as virtuous. Another example is when one person is physically attacked and another intervenes and tries to influence this in a positive way. For me personally, courage is a virtue that is indispensable in our society, but it is increasingly rare. At least one form of courage is less common. People are unwilling to take the risks of courageous deeds without taking advantage of the outcome. Courage is the ability to do something without knowing the consequences of doing something. Courage does not always have to do with physical strength, but often with mental strength. For example, a farmer is brave if he tills his field without knowing whether he will bring in a sufficient harvest. But he does it anyway. It has already been pointed out that caution is part of it. Good preparation is part of it. Starting a project that, objectively speaking, is doomed to failure is not brave, but at best foolhardy, at worst stupid. It doesn't give a universal answer to what is brave. Then, when your conscience comes in and realizes that it is important to stand by your conscience even

against peer pressure, then it is probably courageous to act as your conscience says. Courage initially has nothing to do with a specific fear. A cliff diver is not necessarily brave when jumping 20 meters below the ground. Hopefully he did find out, if not he's an idiot. It's not brave to get involved in a fight, but brave to call the police and wait for them to come.

WHAT IS COURAGE

But would we actually call someone who leans headlong into the unknown and who - if he uses his mind - must know that he will fail, a brave man? Or not more of a hothead or even a fool? Sure, the risk that challenges our courage must not be calculated down to the last detail. Just as courage needs a bit of fearfulness, it also needs a healthy amount of carelessness.

DO WE HAVE TO BE COURAGE?

But maybe it is completely different and the brave one is not someone who is constantly weighing back and forth between fearfulness and recklessness. Instead, he does what he has to do - in a thoroughly moral sense - regardless of how high the risk is.

At least that is the conviction of many philosophers, including Aristotle. In their eyes, the reason for this is a simple one: being courageous is not just one characteristic among many, rather courage is a virtue. So, an attitude that we humans should strive for. The virtuous person immediately recognizes - without thinking too much about it - in which situations courage is required. The fact that he really acts accordingly and is actually brave is nothing unusual and does not make him a kind of excellence. The virtuous who are courageous simply do the right thing, says Aristotle. No more, but no less either. That all sounds pretty sublime - and somehow strict: the brave as principled dogooder. And yet: don't we often have precisely these morally virtuous people in view when we ire a person's courage? We applaud the “heroes of everyday life” who oppose an angry mob of neoNazis, who rescue a dog from the floods, or who work selflessly for people who have been pushed to the edge of our society. Would we give them the same praise if they went heli-skiing at the weekend or free climbing Mount Everest instead? Or are they not the brave ones for us precisely because they do what is morally imperative and possibly risk life and limb? And conversely, do we not curse cowards precisely those people who ought to do the right thing but don't dare to do it - or who, worse still, simply sneak away? If there is such a thing as moral courage, then the duty to be courageous is not far. It would probably be an imperative of the kind: "You should be brave!" The thought may be philosophically logical, but there is something strange about it. Because then the appeal to people to take all their courage together would no longer be an invitation, no more encouragement. This ‘Be brave’ would be simply a moral command, and being courageous would be nothing other than obedience. But someone who is brave is not simply someone who obeys. The brave is one who dares to do something - of his own free will.

COURAGE IN TIMES OF UNCERTAINTY AND FEAR

In this, however, the philosophers are probably right: Courage has a lot to do with standing up for values against all odds. However, from these values it is not

possible to derive any universal duties that apply everywhere and for everyone. In any case, ethics is a bundle of perfect principles only in philosophy. In real life, on the other hand, morality has a lot more to do with the consequences of our actions, be it for us, for other people, for society and for nature. What is important and valuable to us here may vary from situation to situation. It has nothing to do with arbitrariness. Probably with the fact that we all have to ask ourselves again and again if we can really live our lives in accordance with our values. Most of us know well what seems so abstract. We do not have the work that actually corresponds to our idea of self-actualization; we do not live the relationship that satisfies our image of respectful love; we are not moving in an environment that fulfills our ideal of solidarity - and so much more. If such conflicts persist, we feel uncomfortable and sooner or later face the question: Can we change something? Is it in our hands at all, and if so, do we want the change? Are we ready to overcome these internal and external obstacles and to bear the consequences: the uncertainty about finding a new job, the times of loneliness without a partner or the social exclusion of those around me?

Do we really have the courage to do so? Aristotle was convinced that courage can be a way to overcome those obstacles that prevent us from living well. In times of personal uncertainty or political scare tactics, this may be anything but easy. But if Aristotle is right, then it pays to be particularly courageous and to keep thinking about what is important and valuable to us. And to stand up for it with words and deeds - even if it is difficult and sometimes also wild and dangerous. Because in the end nothing less is at stake than: a happy life.

Meditate for 20 minutes a day You probably won't be able to do much with meditation at the moment. You may even be one of those people who tend to associate limiting or negative ideas with this term. I'm not saying here that you have to become a Buddhist monk and spend the remaining days of your life in a meditative state (unless you want to), but believe me when I tell you that meditating just 20 minutes a day is one can have an unbelievably positive effect on your life and well-being! It doesn't even need an extravagant meditation technique! Just make a habit of sitting in a quiet place for just 20 minutes each day, closing your eyes, and trying not to think about anything.

23. Spend time with yourself & learn to love yourself It is shocking how many people there are who shy away from being alone. In their defense, it must be said that we are socially conditioned to view the state of being alone as something exclusively negative. Most people believe that being alone is painful and must be avoided. But the truth is that we can only find ourselves in being alone! We can only learn who we really are and what we want by spending time with ourselves and exploring ourselves. So, create free spaces in your life in which you have time to find yourself! 24. Help others (donate 10% of your income) Perhaps you've already helped an elderly lady or a wheelchair get on the bus, or overcome some other small obstacle in their eyes. You will see that the larger the amount in your savings is from month to month, the more freedom and independence you will gain. 26. Achieve financial independence & financial freedom in the next step Money won't make you happy, but it will open the doors to a world of even greater possibilities. Opportunities that you can use to be even more and give even more. Learn to control your mind Every day, our entire life, we try to use our minds. However, we have never received anything like instructions for use. Instead, most people try to use this extremely important tool only instinctively or intuitively - from the gut. You never worry about the fact that the mind is like a wild animal that needs to be tamed and controlled with the help of personality development. Only in this way can our mind develop its full potential and work towards our goals and dreams. 29. Learn to control your emotions Just as important as taming and controlling our minds is keeping our emotions under control. Many people let their emotions control them instead of controlling them. The goal behind it is to give the mind something good & healthy on the way before it goes to sleep and processes the events of the day. For example, do it like me and read something before bed. Or listen to some music that relaxes you. No matter what you do as an evening ritual, anything is better than letting the television shower you! 32. Stop watching TV Basically, you know what I'm about to tell you here, and you may have already said that yourself a dozen times: TV is all crap! Then why keep watching TV? I could give you 10 more without any problems. The fact is, television is a source of negativity and it costs you more than it gives you. So, stop it! I'm not talking about films or series here. In fact, there are actually tons of inspiring & motivating films that should be seen, but stop zapping the channels stupidly! 33. Choose your environment & your friends wisely You are the average of your 5 closest people! This is a very well-known saying in the field of personality development and it should make it clear how incredibly important our relationships are and what massive effect they have on our entire lives. Realize that you have to choose and shape your environment yourself! As tough as it sounds, it means you have to start sorting out the people who are holding back your personal development. Start surrounding yourself with people who make you grow instead of continuing to accept all the small minds in your life that are dragging you down and preventing you from becoming the best version of yourself. 34. Put your notebook close and write down new things in it every day Our memory is great. No question! But the amount of impressions & information is now so huge that we can only a fraction of it all. The easiest way to solve this dilemma is to use the most classic of all tools, namely the pen and the sheet of paper. Nowadays you can of course also use a lot of digital solutions and yet none of them have the charm & effect that the good old notebook has. So, get yourself such a notebook and record new things in it every day, which are also worth writing down. Your goals, your dreams, your thoughts

Cut out everything bad & negative out of your life Whether it's the wrong friends and acquaintances, the wrong job that you hate profoundly, or even a part of your own personality that you basically can't stand because it makes you into a person you don't want to be, you have to start identifying such negative things in your life and removing them. I am not saying that it is easy! But I say that this is necessary if you want to feel more happiness & fulfillment. Because negativity is like a tumor that keeps growing and makes your whole life sick as long as you don't remove it. 36. Question everything you have been taught We have been taught so much about how the world; life & happiness works from others at a far too young age in our lives. This social conditioning has led to a variety of limiting beliefs that prevent us from reaching our full potential in many areas of our lives. People who have never tried to be successful taught us that success was an exception, a matter of chance. And we believed them! The world is not an unhappy place unless you are not living authentically. You feel emotionally, mentally, physically and even spiritually bound. You never know what's possible if you never try. Doing something different than what you normally do takes guts and courage. Believe that you can make a difference, for yourself, your environment and even society. Everyone can positively influence the world, every person has a gift to offer, including you! ''It takes guts and courage to be yourself, copying or modeling others is easier.'' Just be yourself There is a difference between just being yourself and being authentic. You can react from your learned program, so that you think you are yourself, but you are not. We see this phenomenon more and more on social media. People think they are themselves and show the best of themselves, but they are not authentic. They have identified with a role. I have spoken to many people who thought they were authentic or real. They got up every day, went to work where they thought the job was really what they wanted to do. An active social life, a healthy lifestyle but after following a workout found out not to be authentic. In fact, many had never really asked themselves if this is the life they would like to live. Don't wait for a crisis We have learned to see the world in a certain way and we often follow the path we once mapped out without thinking about it. Often enough, however, these spontaneous inquiries do not fit into our time planning at all, at this moment we have no capacity or energy to do someone a favor or sometimes just simply do not want to do something for someone else again. This feeling spreads in us and yet it is difficult for us to say no. What would the other person think of me? Saying no is not impolite, it is an important tool of self-love! Do I make myself unpopular if I say no? Could the other person be mad at me if I don't do them a favor? And a pilot by safely landing his plane after one of the engines fails in flight, but what exactly does a (good) manager do to show his courage? When the going gets tough, whole tribes in the office choose the path of least resistance. Not surprising because at that moment the primitive, animal part of our brain comes into action, which is aimed at survival. As humans, we have been successful in this evolution for thousands of years. Only nowadays we no longer have mammoths to hunt and we do not encounter a saber-toothed tiger on the street. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of subtle forms of danger lurking in the office jungle. That one colleague who always wants to be right, that tough change process that has been dead for six months and costs a lot of money or the discussion in the weekly meeting that threatens to get out of hand. Discomfort is not called dis-ease. We prefer to look for the safety, comfort and convenience of the familiar as soon as possible. Even if that is sometimes a drag. We are, as it were, made for convenience. The less energy something costs, the greater our chance of survival. That's pure biology. That is why (cultural) change in organizations is so difficult to get off the ground and innovation and creativity are often unconsciously restricted. This has fascinated me for years. That is why I have studied the behavior of dozens of executives over the past three years. In profit and non-profit sectors, from government to professional football and from business to theaters. In doing so, I discovered a number of things that every manager should know. They are the keys to success, especially when the going gets tough. In a Corona crisis, for example. Courage? Yes. The art of courage is. The courage to dive in to yourself during a difficult moment, to connect with feelings, thoughts and beliefs. And to make the right brave choices based on that basis of peace and awareness. What exactly is the definition of courage in the context of leadership? Without wanting to initiate a semantic discussion, my definition is as follows: Courage is the willingness as a leader to face and endure the confrontation with discomfort, fear (your ego) and doubt, in the interest of a higher purpose. That higher goal is, for example, an organizational mission. And in essence, it is always about the interests of the customer, the patient, the citizen or the student. Every decision that is made should be tailored accordingly. That makes sense, doesn't it? Yes, on paper. But when it comes down to it, are you willing to let a little piece of your ego "die" for that higher purpose? In that moment, are you willing to let go of a false belief? To it you made a mistake? To still find the connection with that one difficult colleague? Or to be the first to scrap your own management position if it is best for the future of the company? Then it becomes clear how brave you are. For there are countless beliefs and identifications that you have built up over time. And how can you develop yourself into a courageous manager? And what's in it for you?

Characteristics of courageous leadership

Based on my own (non-scientific) research of three years, I come to the following four characteristics of brave leadership: Dare to stand still. Courageous managers recognize the importance of introspection. They regularly reflect on their own behavior and on the choices, they make consciously and unconsciously. In this way they expand their own consciousness step by step. And no magic mushrooms are involved. Playing with fire. Courageous managers are able to connect with their energy sources, values, drivers and dreams every day. They believe in something and they have ideals. In other words: their inner fire gives off so much heat that they inspire and get along with the people in their environment. Brave managers light fires and have stopped putting out fires. They look for their most sensitive and intimate place. In other words: their ego. Courageous managers realize that sometimes their egos get in the way of achieving that higher goal. And then they are willing to let a piece of that ego die. So, no ego rippers, but ego rippers. Courageous managers view the practice as the best training space. They see a difficult situation as an opportunity to grow and finally make that breakthrough. Because all behind the inconvenience lies that pot of gold. Courageous managers embrace a difficult moment because it is the shortest and surest route to success. Creating transformations I saw these four characteristics remarkably often in the behavior and personality of the managers who were able to create real transformations. The results did not lie. A small selection of the examples that I have seen:

A theater that was piloted in record time from red numbers to big winnings; Employees who took the initiative to create other positions themselves and thereby give the organization new impetus; Falling absenteeism and higher employee satisfaction; From a culture of fear to a safe haven; Crucial career choices that were finally made, with more personal happiness and growth. How do you gain confidence?

Self-confidence is something you can only give yourself. To build more confidence and self-esteem, it is not necessary to keep raising the bar for yourself. There is also no need to pretend to be better than you feel. Probably all

you need to do is stop criticizing yourself and downplaying all of your qualities. Change always starts with you. When you change, the world around you changes with you. That cannot be otherwise, because you send out a different energy, do different things, say different things, etc. If you always do what you did, you keep getting what you got. The moment you change, the system that you are a part of changes. Be happy with yourself It's never too late to become who you are, to become who you would like to be, to become who you could be. You are not the sum of your past, your education, your relationship status and your possessions. You are who you choose to be. Who you are is a pure form, independent of physical characteristics? Let your heart be your guide and become a little more yourself every day. Stop saying it's so hard ... I often read in the comments to my posts: 'If only it were that easy'. And 'It's so difficult'. Well, with a lot of negative thoughts it is in any case impossible to live a positive life. The first step is always: learn to observe and correct your thoughts. What you think you will become. If you want more positivity in your life, then you really have to start thinking and saying positive things. Consciously checking yourself over and over again. For every negative thought, for every negative word, there is a positive counterpart. That does not mean that there will be no more bad things in your life. It does mean that you consciously choose with which thoughts and words you describe that event. That determines your feelings about the situation. Dare to look at yourself Every relationship you have with the people around you act as a mirror. In it you do not see who the other is, but you see who you are. Sometimes confronting, sometimes a pleasant surprise.

Every relationship teaches you about yourself. Therefore, never point to the other, but dare to look at yourself. What do you hold, what do you let go? What do you hold, what do you let go? The main dilemmas in your life. Every day again. This way of choosing makes things easier for you:

Gloomy, negative, critical, angry, judgmental thoughts make you a victim of your own mind. Master your thoughts and never have to feel and act like a victim again.

Be proud of yourself Don't make it unnecessarily difficult for yourself. Just be proud of yourself, always. You're doing your best, right? By always judging yourself very critically, you are really doing yourself short. By constantly comparing yourself to others, you really do yourself short. By making yourself smaller than you are, you are really doing yourself short. By being too modest, you are really doing yourself short. Stop discounting yourself and start taking pride in yourself. Don't compare yourself to others Do you often mirror yourself to others? Do you think others have it all done much better than you? , nothing is what it seems. You only see the outside. Everyone knows their own insecurities, idiosyncrasies, inaccuracies and shortcomings.

Everyone is doing their best to make something of it. Never be jealous of others, you never know the whole story. Be grateful for a new day Not all days are a celebration. every life has its black pages. But every day is one to be lived. Every day that has ed will not come back. So, try to find in every day something that makes your life worth living, no matter how small. Create that ray of sunshine yourself, you have that power, use it when necessary. What does lifestyle actually mean? Lifestyle is a term we come across very often. Probably lifestyle blogs, lifestyle category on most portals or lifestyle sessions are known, which are getting more and more popular every year. And what is lifestyle actually? Lifestyle is nothing more than a lifestyle. It consists of everything around us, including travel, ions, food, inspiration, career, clothing, cosmetics, nutrition, and relationships. All these elements describe who we are and what values we profess. Lifestyle can be characterized as a series of daily behaviors and activities that are specific to one person or group of people. Can be described as a kind of life strategy that manifests in everyday life. Lifestyle is also associated with the culture that shapes it. What does the concept of lifestyle consist of? Have fun Enjoy life, (healthy) food and the people around you. Do as many things as you like that you like; meet up with friends, go to the movies, a night out or a festival. When you have fun, no stress hormone is produced and stress is unhealthy. In short: cheerfulness makes you healthy. Oh yeah! And laughter also burns calories. What else do you want?

3. Go offline, reduce distractions and feel your body We live in a world of so much distraction that it becomes more and more difficult to sense our mental and physical needs. Put your phone on airplane mode, don't get out behind your TV for an evening and close your laptop. When you cut yourself off from the online world, go into nature and discover how you feel. This also applies to your eating moments; do you normally read a book or newspaper while eating? Or do you scroll through Instagram? Don't do this once. In addition, everybody reacts differently to change. Some people will lose a lot of weight in the beginning, while others will take longer before visible results are achieved. There are better ways to track your progress. For example, measure certain body parts with a measuring tape or use your clothing as a gauge. The very best way? Your own feeling. Do you feel confident in your body? Energetic and happy? Super! Then you make enormous progress!
