WEATHER AND FLIGHT INFORMATION TELEPHONE NUMBERS Flight Service Station (FSS) and National Weather Service (NWS) Telephone Numbers Explanation of Services 800/WX-BRIEF—A toll-free number that automatically routes the caller to the appropriate FSS. This service is available in all states except Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Individual AFSS Toll-free Telephone Number—Enables the caller to reach a specific AFSS with their cellular phone far from home without automatically being directed to their “home” FSS facility. Callers can obtain local notams for, and at, airports outside their home station’s briefing area. Telephone Information Briefing Service (TIBS)—A continuously played recording of meteorological and aeronautical information provided by automated flight service stations (AFSSs). TIBS includes area and route briefings, airspace procedures, and special announcements. A touch-tone telephone is needed to fully utilize TIBS. TEL-TWEB—Telephone access to TWEB providing transcribed aviation weather information at selected locations. Fast File Flight Plan System (FF)—Use the discrete telephone numbers listed to file your flight plan in accordance with prerecorded instructions. IFR flight plans will be extracted from the recorder and subsequently entered into the appropriate ARTCC computer. VFR flight plans will be retained at the FSS for activation.
