Project Proposal – Application of Artificial Intelligence in Health Care Sector Group 11 Madhusmita Sahoo- 1711406 Kranti Shejwalker- 1711328

Artificial Intelligence has a potential to solve variety of world problems. One of the important application of AI is in healthcare sector where AI can not only help in better prediction of diseases but also in treatment of diseases. With the help of using AI technologies, colorectal cancer – one of the deadliest kinds of cancer – can be detected with 86% accuracy in its early stages.1 Machine learning can be used to predict patient risks of acquiring various diseases including heart diseases which lied completely in unpredictable domain a few years back.2 AI can also be used to predict the outbreak of a disease like dengue in a locality based on analyzing around 300 parameters like wind direction, temperature, humidity, population density etc.3 Besides prediction, AI is used extensively in monitoring and treatment of critical diseases. AI is being used for reading ECG of patients and performing surgeries thus reducing the chances of human error. AI and Machine Learning is used extensively to design surgical robots which can perform complicated surgeries with greater accuracies.4 Our project would investigate the data acquisition section of AI analyzing the difficulties in acquiring data for relevant population and challenges in ensuring proper training of the network. The project would delve deeper in understanding the application of AI in healthcare sector gauging the improved predictability and efficiency of our treatment methodologies. We would examine how hospitals and researchers are increasingly using AI to find cure for lethal/incurable diseases. For this, we plan to visit Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research and Apollo Hospital to understand the extent to which AI is used on ground in a metropolitan city like Bangalore (at hospitals) in present times. We would try to establish s with our relevant friends/relatives to understand and get an update on the research under progress in field of AI in healthcare sector. The project would give us an understanding of application of AI in healthcare sector and increase our knowledge by analyzing the application of classroom concepts in real practice.
