INTRODUCTION HAFED or The Haryana State Cooperate Supply and Marketing Federation Limited is an apex institution of marketing societies in the state of Haryana. Its carporate office located in Panchkula. It came into existence on 1 Nov 1966
MISSION To serve the economic interests of the farmers of Haryana by providing viable and effective in Agriculture Production. Marketing & Agri Processing.
FUNCTIONS • Main agency of State Government for the procurement of agriculture produce like Wheat, Paddy, in the state of Haryana. • Procure mustard seed with NAFED. • Procure Bajra for Central pool. • Provide Fertilizers, seeds to PACS through marketing societies.
Network of Marketing Societies In the State of Haryana there are 76 marketing societies out of which 62 are functional and 14 are defunct.

A) Share Capital: The share capital of Hafed as on 31 March 2010 is Rs. 12.93 crore and it includes Govt. equity of Rs. 18.75 lac. B) Reserve & Surplus: The reserve and surplus of the Federation increased from Rs. 380.12 crore (as on 31 march 2006) to Rs. 630.82 crore (as on 31 march 2010). C) Turnover and Profits •
The turnover of the Federation is increased from 3095.09 crores to 4253.55 crores from financial year 2005-06 to 2009-10 but profits decreased from 58.36 crore to 43.45 crore during the same period. I NVESTMENTS
Investments of the Federation in various Cooperative and Public Sector Institutions increased from Rs. 116.60 crore(as on 31 march 2006) to Rs. 117.61 crore(as on 31 march 2010). Hafed has invested in the equity of IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, IPL, NCMSL, Cooperative Sugar Mill, Gohana and Cooperative Sugar Mill, Sirsa etc. Data of last five years is as under:Year ending Amount (Rs. PROCUREMENT A) Wheat Procurement:Hafed is one of the state agencies for procurement of wheat on price announced by Govt. of India from time to time and has been procuring wheat since 1969. Wheat is delivered to FCI for central pool. In the year 2009-10 Hafed purchased 24.74 Lac MTs out of total procurement of the state that was 69.11 lac MTs. It contributes 36% of the total procurement.
PROCUREMENT B) Rice Procurement :Hafed is one of the state procuring agencies for procurement of paddy under price operations. Hafed owns 13 Rice mills with a capacity of 302 MT of paddy per hour. Hafed also purchases Basmati paddy and other varieties of paddy to ensure competitive prices to the paddy growers. In the year 200910 hafed purchased 10.40 MT.

A) Fertilizers:- Hafed is rendering in providing agricultural inputs viz. Fertilizers, Pesticides, Insecticides, seed etc. on reasonable prices at the door- steps of farmers including remote areas through number cooperate Marketing societies and over 564 PACS spread all over the stats in order to boost agricultural production. MARKETING
With a view to provide marketing to the processing activity of Hafed by relating regular demand of it’s branded consumer products like Basmati Rice, Kachi Ghani mustard oil, Refined soyabean and cotton seed oil, Desi Wheat, Desi wheat atta, Sugar, Turmeric powder, etc., systematic efforts were made to recognise it’s marketing activities in the year 1993-94 by establishing independent marketing division. Since then sales of Hafed consumer products have increased manifold.
A) Contract Farming • Hafed undertaken contract farming of Barley, Basmati, Paddy and Desi Wheat. Farmers get better prices of their produce.
B) ORGANIC FARMING • Hafed has undertaken organic projects on 1000 hectares, under which the cost of organic certification and advisory services to the farmers is being borne by Hafed.
WARE HOUSING • Hafed has over the years, created it’s own scientific storage capacity of 8.64 lac MT godowns.

EXPORT Hafed is also active in export of rice. In 2009-10 the value of rice exported by Hafed was Rs. 1.38 crore
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Various initiatives have been taken to enhance the penetration of I.T. in the organization. Some of the projects undertaken during this period include comprehensive computerization of all the member Cooperative Marketing Societies, online monitoring of court cases, online sales monitoring etc,.
STRENGHTHENING OF MEMBER COOP. MARKETING SOCIETIES Hafed being an Apex Federation of the cooperative Marketing Societies is committed to watch the interests of It's member societies. The entire business of Hafed viz. Procurement, Supply of Inputs etc, is routed through these societies in the State. Thus, Hafed not only provides remunerative prices to farmers for their produce but also pays commission to its member Coop. Marketing Societies on the business done through them.
FUTURE PROSPECTS
Though Hafed is achieving excellence in every sphere of its activity but on certain fronts, it is lacking. In export the organization did not show results. The total revenue earned by it in 2009-10 was only 1.38 crore. This has to be increased in future.
