Introduction the Base Version (x.0.0) MUI Installer and the MSP MUI Update from http://www.adobe.com//s/product.jsp?product=10&platform=Win dows 1. Extract the zip file of the Base installer if zipped so that you have the MSI. 2. Run an install of the Base installer extracted MSI. Give it a new path name for the end resulting patch version. 3. Run an install with a patch option specifying the MSP on the install you created in step 2. Example of Steps 2. O:\Adobe\Reader\11>msiexec /a AdbeRdr11000_mui_Std\AcroRead.msi (Give path of .\Adobe Reader 11.0.3) 3. O:\Adobe\Reader\11>msiexec /a "Adobe Reader 11.0.03\AcroRead.msi" /p AdbeRdrUpd11003.msp

Quick and easy description. I don't know why Adobe needs pages and pages of info to tell you the same thing.

This didn't work for me. Since other people haven't had problems I'm assuming I did something wrong. In step 2 you say "Give path of .\Adobe Reader 11.0.3", I can't give it a path of .\Adobe Reader 11.0.3 so I created another folder on the C drive called Adobe Reader 11.0.3 and pointed the install to there. I then copied the AdbeRdrUpd11003.msp file into that directory. I then ran the msiexec /a AcroRead.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd11003.msp command I get "The Upgrade Patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer Service because the program blah blah blah". I did not have any problems with version 11.0.1 or 11.0.2, but I can't seem to get this patch to install. I've also tried a different computer.
One thing I don't quite understand too is when you say "base version 0.0x", I ed the AdbeRdr11000_mui_Std.zip which I believe is what you intended, just wanted to .

Do it all from the same base path. Create a folder - for example c:\adobe Save your AdbeRdr11000_mui_Std.zip in there. Extract it. and save the AdbeRdrUpd11003.msp there too From a cmd prompt C: CD \adobe msiexec /a AdbeRdr11000_mui_Std\AcroRead.msi Tell it to save it in a new folder - in your case - c:\adobe\Adobe Reader 11.0.3 Let it install. msiexec /a "Adobe Reader 11.0.03\AcroRead.msi" /p AdbeRdrUpd11003.msp Done.

Yes, but we don't want the EXE, we want the MSI, and the link provided gives the msi in a zip file.

If anyone is having issues applying the 11.0.03 MSP file to the 11.0.0 MSI files, you need to ensure that you have ed the MUI version of the patch, i.e. AdbeRdrUpd11003_MUI.msp Just found this out myself!

Very nice - thanks! In case anyone wants a reference, the MS Technet article is very good (there were some extra things I wanted to check). http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc759262(v=ws.10).aspx

Thanks. One addition - when chaining patches just keep adding them to the same target directory.

Unless it is the Security updates like Version 11.0.08 and Version 11.0.05, the rest of them (MUI Installers) are all cumulative. I always start with a new install of the First version (11.0.0 for example), and then patch it with the Cumulative update from the MUI Installer. The only time I had to add a 3rd step was for the Security updates - that's when I take a copy of the previous version, and copy it to a new folder and then just apply the security patch. (EG copy 11.0.07 to a new folder called 11.0.08, and then apply the 11.0.08 patch to that.

hang on a second. Slipstreaming would mean that you include the new files (MSP) into the original MSI (!?) I think you describe just the way an MSP is being installed the usual way in a startup-script. Really handy would be to really merge those two files and getting a new MSI.
