This will replicate your 渘les and folders, hide and replace it with shortcuts.exe. This is a combination of Trojan and Worm. The bad thing about this, it will leave you no options but to click it in order to open your 渘les and folders. Press the windows key + R again, type “mscon渘g” click “OK“, in “Startup” tab uncheck everything except your antivirus. Click “OK” and “Restart now”.

REMOVE A LINK VIRUS IN YOUR PC TO STOP IT SPREAD OTHER USB DRIVES For Windows 8 and above: First, open your Task Manager and go to your Startup tab then you will 渘nd a Visual Basic Script Host process with a random unreadable name then its you’re target. Disable it and then go to your Processes tab and select explorer.exe and then click End Process. You will notice something bad and that is good, don’t panic it was just normal. Hit the Windows icon together with R and type cmd and press Enter. Type “shutdown -r” without quotes and your pc will restart. After restart open Windows Explorer by hitting the Windows Icon and E. Hit the View tab and check “Hidden item”. Go to your Local Disk then s then Your name then go to appdata then Roaming then 渘nd an unusual, random, unreadable folder name and delete it. Hello Angelica, indeed in Windows 10 there is no

“explore” option. So you just need to type the drive letter of your drive followed by a colon at the address bar (F:). Regarding smartphone, it can be infected by shortcut virus if you connect it on infected PC’s and if the SD card you use on your phone is infected. However, it seems that the e�ect of shortcut virus on android isn’t signi渘cant. I don’t recommend you to perform the guides above on your smartphone, unless you know what you are doing. For general public, I don’t recommend this on smartphone, seek the help of your friend that has knowledge about computing. Reply

Ben So I followed all the steps. First CMD which didn’t work. Then I ed RKill, HFV, and SmadAv and followed all the steps. Cleaned a couple of viruses and then I did a full scan with Avira and formatted my USB. However as soon as I insert it the

shortcut virus not just your 咔ꪪash drive. I would suggest to to use Rkill again, and install Eset Nod32 and Smadav. Do a full scan using Eset Nod32 and keep Smadav installed. Please take note, you have to uninstall Avira. You will be using Eset Nod32 trial, after the full scan you can remove it and re-install your Avira. Reply

I encountered the same problem regarding the shortcut virus. However as i did the steps and launched the smadav program, after clicking on “渘x” for the heuristic 渘les it said it found.. when i opened my usb drive, all sorts of folders came up but they were in a di�erent label (?) i tried clicking on them but it says the 渘le is not accessible because the directory name or volume label



syntax is incorrect. Is there anything I could do to still recover my 渘les at this rate? Reply

computer. I think, you don’t have to worry. However, if really want to delete it, just make sure that no other programs are using it. To be safe, restart your computer and boot safe-mode. When your computer is in safe-mode, delete that temporary 渘les. Reply

What has de渘nitely worked for me was the CMD method but you have to run it as , then when you get the black dos window, type 渘rst the letter of the 咔ꪪash/external drive followed by a column, for example “F:” (where F is the 咔ꪪash/external drive), then the black dos screen will turn into “F:” , then simply type “ATTRIB -H -R -S /S /D”. If you do this, you will see all your 渘les inside the “.trashes” folder. Simply then, copy all of them to your computer hard disk but not in your C (system) partition, then FORMAT the 咔ꪪash/external drive and the computer C (system) partition, and install a new windows operating system on your C drive and your nightmare is over. Hello Hamza Arshad, as what I have said Shortcut Virus has two variations. If you are infected by the “Shortcut Flashdisk Virus”, you don’t have to worry because the method 2 above will erase it. However, if you are infected by the “Files and folder Shortcut Virus”, still the method two will help you unhide your original 渘les. But you have to remove those Shortcut Virus manually, by deleting it one by one or install a good Antivirus to delete it all automatically. I am personally using NOD32 but avira is a good alternative, just check my posts on free Antivirus. With regard to your question if shortcut virus slows your pc? Hi Spal, have you tried to check your 咔ꪪash drive or hard disk properties? It seems that you’re 渘les are hidden by “渘les and folder shortcut virus”. It’s another shortcut virus variation. However the method 2 above will surely help you. Just follow the instructions correctly. Then get back, if there is still a problem. Reply

Hi Gashaw Lulie, thank you for the compliments. There is no need for detailed instructions since I explained it already in method 1. However, if you are a bit confuse let me expound it a bit. In Trojan remover, just run it inside your 咔ꪪash disk. About the 渘x folder, before running it inside your 咔ꪪask disk, right click it 渘rst… then click open with….choose notepad…..then look for the cDrive = “H:”….now change the H: with your 咔ꪪash disk drive letter… Then save the 渘le and you can now run it to 渘x your problem…..
