Al instante se obscureció el agua, se levantó un viento y se formó un remolino que acabó de agitar la superficie del lago. En la orilla del agua estaban las siete tribus, quienes al ver lo ocurrido dijeron a los descendientes de los Atziquinahay:”Acaba de agitarse la superficie de nuestra laguna, nuestro mar ¡oh hermano nuestro! Que sea para ti la mitad del lago y para ti una parte de sus frutos, los patos, cangrejos, pescados.” Consultaron entre ellos y brindaron la siguiente respuesta:”Está bien, hermano. La mitad de la laguna es tuya, tuya será la mitad de los frutos, los patos, cangrejos y pescados, la mitad de las espadañas y las cañas verdes. Y así también juntará la gente todo lo que mate entre las espadañas.” De esta manera fue hecha la división del origen del Lago de Atitlán. 2. LA LEYENDA DE LA LLORONA En su versión guatemalteca, la Llorona es el alma en pena de una mujer de origen criollo (descendiente de españoles) o mestiza, pero en ambos casos de un estrato socioeconómico alto. Cuenta la leyenda que la mujer se llamaba María y que, mientras su esposo andaba de viaje, tuvo un amorío con un mozo de su hacienda. Pero María resultó embarazada a causa de esta relación. Sus lastimeros gritos asustan al más valiente y paralizan al pavoroso. Muchos dicen haberla visto y escuchado. Se cuenta que, cuando se la escucha cerca, en realidad está muy lejos, y viceversa. LA LEYENDA DE LA TATUANA Hay relatos que cuentan que hace muchos años, en época colonial, hubo en Guatemala una joven y bella mujer de origen mulato a la que llamaban Tatuana, que disfrutaba con los placeres de la carne y con los placeres del lujo, los cuales no estaban bien vistos en una sociedad recatada y religiosa. Intentó varias veces salir del bosque donde estaba siendo secuestrada y luego de mucha pena lo consiguió. Cuando al fin volvió con su familia y su gente, su padre dijo que no podía decir a nadie sobre la pena que había pasado. Así fue como la princesa se calló durante años y la pena fue cada vez más grande, tanto así que su rostro se tornó feo de tanta tristeza, nadie más la volvió a pretender con tanta fealdad. Sin embargo, un día llegó a la tribu un cacique de otra parte y venía con su hijo, quien se enamoró a primera vista de la callada, tierna e inteligente princesa. Todos sus amigos le decían que era muy fea para casarse con ella, pero él respondía que su amor era semejante.

Se casó finalmente la princesa y a su boda asistió una bruja, todos temieron y quisieron que se vaya del luego, pero ella la abrazó diciéndole que sea su madrina durante la fiesta. La bruja se quedó y cuando salió la princesa de la catedral en donde se casaron, todos pudieron notar que volvió a ser la chica más hermosa del mundo. Mientras tanto, el viento sopló tan fuerte que esta vez se quedó con la bruja y la transformó en una paloma.

LEYENDA DE LA NOVIA DE TILTEPEC, CHIAPAS Cuenta la leyenda de la novia de Tiltepec Chiapas que se encontraba una pareja de enamorados con mucho renombre, ella lo amaba con locura y por eso aceptó casarse con este hombre que también tenía para ese entonces un nombre importante entre la sociedad, pero cuando las cosas parecían estar de maravilla, un día antes de la boda ocurrió algo que habría cambiado todo para un lado que nadie se hubiese imaginado, se trató de que llegó como todos los días la novia a visitar al novio como todos los días en su casa, según le había dicho, ese día no podría verla por una cuestión de creencias estando solamente un día del gran casamiento, allí es que desafortunadamente entró en su hogar y vio cómo su pareja que tanto amaba se encontraba durmiendo con su mejor amiga, entonces no pudo soportar la antigua y el dolor. La novia de Chiapas con el corazón destrozado habría tomado un palo que se encontraba en la casa y como su única arma de ataque habría matado a los dos solamente con ese palo de la cantidad de golpes que les proporcionó a cada uno de ellos, nadie sabe cómo no pudieron defenderse, pero así es como sucedió exactamente, luego lloró sin parar con lágrimas que no calmaban su angustia.

El siguiente día todos la esperaban en la iglesia para poder celebrar su casamiento ya que no contó a nadie de lo sucedido, pero entonces cuando apareció sin novio, todos se rieron de ella sin parar por estar sola en el altar, les pareció cómico que no tuviera con quien casarse una vez allí, por eso es que al salir del lugar ella se suicidó, pero antes mandó una fuerte y poderosa maldición en la iglesia y todos los que asistieron a la boda rápidamente perdieron la vida. Se dice que algunos días desde las 9 de la noche hasta la 3 de la mañana puede oírse en el templo un casamiento y que todos gritan ¡Vivan los novios! El que salga a la calle cuando suenen las campanadas se convertirá en un espectro más. EL ANILLO DE DIAMANTES A veces un anillo de diamantes puede ser la mejor prueba para evidenciar una infidelidad. Luego del episodio tan trágico que sucedió en Xalapa veracruz, se ha nombrado a la calle donde vivía la feliz pareja como “El callejón del diamante”. La leyenda que les contaremos en esta ocasión también es buscada con el nombre “El anillo de diamante negro”. Una pareja se encontraba en su momento más pleno y feliz, por lo menos esto era lo que

parecía. Las cosas iban tan bien que ya habían planeado el día de la boda para concretar el deseo de estar juntos para siempre. En muestra de su eterno amor, el hombre de contextura esbelta y de rasgos europeos, decidió regalarle a su mujer un anillo con un pronunciado diamante color negro que combinaba sin dudas con el azabache de su cabello. Los ojos de la dama brillaban y más todavía bajo la luna mientras su novio le pedía matrimonio. Sucedió un asunto laboral que de vez en cuando salía flote y llevaba a este corpulento hombre de viaje. La mujer se quedó sola en la casa que tenían en Xalapa y no tuvo mejor idea que ir a visitar al mejor amigo de su futuro esposo. Resulta ser que con los días se volvieron rutina las visitas y los besos entre ambos comenzaron a surgir. Su pareja volvía de viaje y ella ya se encontraba en el hogar para recibirlo, pero él pensó que sería mejor idea pasar primero por la casa de su amigo. Ambos amigos de siempre, inseparables y siempre leales para todo, tomaron unas copas y hablaron de la vida. Cuando el hombre se sentó en el sofá, pudo ver tirado el anillo de diamante negro que le había entregado a su mujer antes del viaje. Pensó mil cosas que se le pasaban por la cabeza, pero no tenía dudas, estaba frente a una traición. Volvió agitado a la casa y encontró la mano vacía de su mujer. Con la mente en blanco tomó una daga de diamante y oro para clavarla en el corazón de su amada y entonces la quitó para colocar el anillo. La gente se movilizó con la cruda historia y hasta hicieron fila para ver al cadáver con el diamante negro incrustado en el corazón. NOCHE ESTRELLADA Una joven pareja decide dar un paseo nocturno por el bosque cercano a su ciudad para ver las estrellas y el firmamento sin la polución de la urbe. En el momento de regresar a casa, el muchacho se da cuenta que el coche no arranca. Tras un rato intentándolo, él le propone a ella esperarle en el coche mientras va a pedir ayuda. Ella, aunque algo asustada, acepta. Nada más partir él, cierra bien todos los seguros. El tiempo pasa y su novio aún no ha regresado...Siguen pasando los minutos y el miedo en ella cada vez es mayor. De repente, ella empieza a escuchar un ruido en el exterior, más concretamente en el techo del coche. Parecía como si una rama de árbol rozará con el coche por el aire que soplaba fuera. Aunque era extraño, porque no estaban próximos a ningún árbol. Aunque asustada, al final termina durm iéndose. Al amanecer, la muchacha es despertada por la policía. Extrañada, ella abre la ventanilla y le piden que salga del coche, pero que no mira detrás de ella. Evidentemente, se volvió y vio a su novio muerto, colgando de la rama de un árbol mientras sus pies rozaban el techo del coche. LA LEYENDA DEL SOMBRERÓN Una de las leyendas más conocidas sobre este personaje de la cultura guatemalteca y además también es muy conocida en Aguadas, Caldas dice así: Una noche El Sombrerón caminaba en un barrio de La Antigua Guatemala cuando vio a una muchacha muy bella con pelo largo y se enamoró de ella. Buscó su casa y le llevó serenata una y otra noche, pero ella no le dijo nada a sus padres sobre él. Un día empezó a dejar de comer hasta el

punto de que casi murió, y fue entonces cuando la madre se dio cuenta que era por El Sombrerón. Llevó a su hija a un convento creyendo que ahí iba a estar mejor, pero la niña siguió sin comer y un día despertó con una trenza en su pelo hecha por el espectro y ese día murió. Luego en el velorio, apareció El Sombrerón llorando y sus lágrimas eran como cristales. Jamas olvida a las muchachas que ha amado. También se cuenta que les hace trenzas a los caballos y mulas... Se cuenta también que este espanto a parte de enamorar a muchachas jóvenes, gusta por cabalgar mulas y caballos de los establos de las fincas en las noches agotándolos. Por ello, las bestias durante el día no cumplen las tareas sumado a que se vuelven hostiles con las personas, los campesinos y finqueros al ver este comportamiento buscan si el Sombrerón no les ha hecho trenzas en la greñas. Si es así, el animal ya no sirve para tareas...

Una forma de saber si el Sombrerón está haciendo de las suyas en fincas y casas, es colocar ya sea cerca de un balcón de casa o cerca de los establos una silla y mesa de pino recién elaboradas, junto a aguardiente y una guitarra en noche de luna y deben guardar silencio todas las personas, sólo así se escuchará la guitarra y los cantos del Sombrerón. LEYENDA DEL NIÑO DEL BOTE Se cuenta que en el domicilio que se ubica en Calle Galeana 1976, cerca de lo que es hoy el puente sobre la avenida ayuntamiento. Vivía un matrimonio con su pequeño hijo. Hubo un tiempo en que el pequeño se mostraba sumamente nervioso y preguntaba a sus padres -¿Quién juega y llora en la azotea todas las noches?-, los padres no le tomaban ni la mas mínima importancia, y decían: -ha de ser un gato ¡duérmete!-, El pobre niño despertaba a media noche, asustado, porque sobre el techo de su cama se escuchaban gemidos, y el sonido de una lata rodando continuamente de un lugar a otro. Llamaba a sus padres, pero estos desde su habitación le ordenaban volver a dormir. Incluso intentaba dormir con ellos, pero también se lo impedían. Una de tantas ocasiones, el matrimonio fue despertado a mitad de la noche por un grito de terror proveniente de la habitación del niño, y después de eso no pudieron encontrarlo por ningún lado. Dieron aviso a las autoridades y al siguiente día, al volver a casa después de un largo día buscando a su hijo, ven un bote atado con un lazo colgar de la azotea. Con algo de enojo el hombre sube a la azotea, y ve otro bote tirado sobre el techo de la recamara de su hijo, al acercarse ve a su hijo en un rincón, sentado en cuclillas, abrazando sus piernas, tiene el cuerpo totalmente arañado y su rostro muestra un gesto de infinito terror…¡Sin vida!. El matrimonio se mudó, pero en su nuevo hogar, a media a noche los despertó el sonido de un bote rodando en la azotea, y parado frente a su cama, vieron a su hijo diciendo: -Me

asusta el ruido de allá arriba-. Después de eso no lo volvieron a ver, pero cada año en el aniversario de su muerte, se escucha el ruido del bote y el llanto del niño. 1.
