4. Now, take your issues, matching subject matter and other details and combine them into a written business case. Here is an example e-mail model:
To: Jane Smith, Director of IT Services From: Joe Smith, Manager of IT Services Subject: An Event That Will Teach Me How To Implement ITIL We’ve recently made a commitment to use ITIL best practices in our IT department. ITIL was selected for the following benefits: -
Increasing customer satisfaction with IT services Reducing the risk of not meeting business requirements for IT services Reducing costs when developing procedures and practices with an organisation Better communication and information flows between IT staff and customers Standards and guidance for IT staff Greater productivity and better use of skills and experience A quality approach to IT services
As part of the ITIL initiative, I am responsible for applying several processes to the organisation. I want to be sure I apply the framework correctly. To do this, I want to learn from the best. I’ve discovered an event that will help me learn more about implementing ITIL theory. It’s Pink st nd Elephant’s ITIL Implementation Road Map, occurring on 31 August – 2 September in Melbourne. Not only was this event designed to show people how to apply the ITIL framework correctly, but it was also created by the organisation responsible for introducing ITIL to numerous regions worldwide. By attending this event, I can actually learn from those that know the most about the ITIL framework. In fact, with the information I gain, I will be able to address our key implementation issues. The reason? This event features subject matter directly relevant to these issues. Among other things, I will learn how to assess current process maturity, how to identify skills gaps and how to create surveys to ensure our customers are happy. Another benefit is the number if s I will make. Pink Elephant has scheduled several networking opportunities. Once there, I plan to walk away with at least 10 phone numbers of other IT professionals so that I can learn from the experience of others. I want to take advantage of this opportunity to increase my understanding of ITIL and how to effectively implement it in our business. I would appreciate if you could confirm my approval to attend this event. Regards, Joe Smith Manager of IT Services Smith Company ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _____ © Pink Elephant, 2005.
