Throughout the trailer young people are portrayed in a number of ways such as violent and promiscuous yet quite vulnerable and naive. This is emphasised through a variation of technical element such as camerawork and editing. At the beginning of the trailer its starts off slow moving with deep, dull music, then suddenly the music changes and becomes more upbeat. There is a use of jump cuts showing the individual characters, smoking and there are close ups on drugs such as ‘heroine’ and ‘cannabis’. This represents youth and how they act’ interestingly with close reference to the title being ‘kidulthood’ such things like smoking drugs and drinking are inappropriate for teenagers to do however it has been normalised which makes us question society and how things have changed over time.
The youth in this film are portrayed in quite a promiscuous way, due to the fact that the film contains underage sex and a lot of sexual content. Throughout the trailerthere is a vivid exploration of sexual imagery and connotations. For example much of the banter between the young people is about sex , similarly to this some female characters within the film present themselves in a very promiscuous manor , through the revealing clothes they way in which Becky presents herself at the party. Characters such as Becky and Claire are often involved with the boys throughout the trailer. In particular Becky is portrayed sexually as we see her flirtatious behaviour through close ups and two shots of her communicating with boys, similarly to this, there is a two shot of Claire and Sam where we see sexual behaviour and where we see nakedness after Sam and Claire were involved in sexual relations.
Violence and brutality appears to be a prominent theme within this film as perceived through the trailer towards one another. The often use dialogue such as ‘I’m gonna bang you up’ or ‘I’m gonna hurt you’. This shows how young people in this film are violent and brutal and there is no sense of morality. This is shown through the low angle when the three boys are kicking Sam the sound of the kicks are emphasised which highlights the brutality of their acts. Interestingly the brutality continues throughout the film as there are close ups on guns and baseball bats, which is typical imagery associated with gangs and young people.
The end of the trailer is deceiving as there is an abruptly as it cuts to a black out and then we assume that the trailer is over , leaving us curious due to the fact that there is a loud bang and it then cuts to a black out. Then suddenly we see Sam saying goodbye to his mum and then it ends on that note. This adds a humorous tone to the film which adheres the comical conventions.
