Making Hand Wash Liquid Soap Dr. N K Srinivasan It is really easy to make liquid hand wash soap at home with quality ingredients and with special formulation .The cost is minimal.!The fun is really great!! You create liquid soap without harmful preservatives [methyl paraben ,ethyl paraben , sorbic acid etc or harmful detergents and foaming agents like lauryl sulphate and mineral oil which affect your skin over a few years… You can make “High quality natural or synthetic liquid soap” which improves hygiene at low cost. After some experience , you can try many useful ingredients---essential oils,fragrance and special colors. Here I give only one recipe with simple mixing procedure as a starter. Ingredients 1 Soap chips –from any of your favourite soap; you can use left-over pieces too. Check the quality first. 2 Glycerine 3 Aloe-vera gel 4 Rose water ----------------------------------------------------------------------------Optional Ingredients 5 Vitamin C [ascorbic acid] 6 Vitamin E or wheat germ oil Equipment:

A water jar, a measuring cylinder, stainless steel spoons, hot plate or microwave oven to boil water,

a squeeze bottle or dispenser. A thermometer [0 to 100 deg C] (optional)

Recipe [for 200 ml liquid soap] Water

100ml [distilled or purified water]

Soap chips 10 gms Glycerine

10 ml [2 teaspoon]

Aloe- vera gel

5ml [1 teaspoon]

Rose water

100ml

Vitamin C –500 mg tablet –one Vitamin E 400 IU capsule ---one Procedure Step1: Boil about 120 ml water and measure out 100 ml Step 2: Stir soap chips in the boiled water till completely dissolved. Use the stainless steel spoon. Step 3; Mix glycerine and Aloe-vera in a small cup Step 4: Add glycerine-aloevera mix to soapy water after it cools to about 60 deg Centigrade and stir well Step 5: Add rose water and stir well Step 6: Add crushed Vit C tablet….Squeeze Vitamin E capsule after pricking with a pin..add to the soap solution Step 6: Pour into squeeze bottle or dispenser.

[Since no preservative is added , use the soap within two weeks. Vit C and Vit E act as mild preservative too. To reduce cost, you need not add Vit C and Vit E ingredients.] It is easy to increase the quantities to make a batch of 500 ml liquid soap at a time. Suggestions 1 You can add a few drops of rose essence or lavender or other essences. 2 You can add herbal ingredients like turmeric, neem,sandal wood oil, cucumber juice in small quantities. -------------------------------------------------------------------------
