Notes on sim limitations & noteworthy features Whilst the Black Shark has been made to take full advantage of every current technology available to the sim, we at AlphaSim have still had to contend with the hard coded limitations of the sim engine. Noteworthy features: •
The Black Shark is our second rotary product to make full use of our 3D RealGauge technology.

The cockpit is modelled in ultra-realistic detail and features full night lighting textures & effects.

The Heads Up Display and MFD digital map have been accurately recreated for our version.

Included are 6 beautifully detailed paint schemes and 2 model variants.

The cockpit features realistic and high-resolution textures.

The FSX version includes high-detail specular and bump maps for EVERY part of the VC.

Pilot visibility can be toggled using the water rudder key.
•
Brake lever animation.

8 interior and 5 exterior preset camera views (FSX only)

FSX DX10 compatible model complete with interior self-shadowing, realistic spec and shine, and custom bump mapping to bring every rivet and surface to life.
Limitations in FSX: •
Lights can appear to differ in position when viewed from different viewpoints, such as the tower view. This is a known FSX issue, and not an issue with the model.

Introduction Introduction The Ka-50 was developed in the 1990s after bitter losses in Afghanistan from ground fire. Unlike previous attack helicopters, the Ka-50 adopted a single man approach, light weight, extensive armour and considerable firepower, all of which lead to a very powerful and highly manoeuvrable battle field surviving attack helicopter. The Ka-50 is fully acrobatic and able to perform loops, rolls and the highly effective 'funnel' manoeuvre, also called circle strafing. The Black Shark is the second AlphaSim rotary product to feature the ultra-realistic RealGauge technology, allowing for perfect 3D gauges throughout the virtual cockpit. The product contains versions for both Flight Simulator 9 and Flight Simulator X. The FSX version is a fullfeatured FSX release, including all of our now standard technologies such as cockpit self shadowing, HDR bloom effects, and bump mapping.

Installation An easy installation is provided by way of installer. Simply double click the installer exe file, and follow the on screen prompts. The Black Shark will be installed to the default FSX or FS9 directory. Extras will be installed into the root FS directory/AlphaSim. A start menu entry will also be made, containing links to the paint kit, help and , and an uninstaller should you ever wish to remove the product. Please see the ‘Package’ section for more details on what is included in this package.
The visual model, textures, cockpit and sounds were created by AlphaSim. The flight model was expertly crafted by Michael Davies. Our thanks extend to the dedicated beta testers that scanned various versions with their trained eyes!

Package Information
RealGauge Technology & the 2D “RealGauge” is AlphaSim’s own version of the little used, but very impressive 3D gauge technology. Each gauge is crafted in 3D and uses high resolution textures in order to create a level of immersion not possible with conventional 2D gauges. “RealGauge” creates very little overhead in the sim, allowing both your processor and graphics card to concentrate on proving a totally fluid sim experience. FPS with RealGauge technology is often higher than with less detailed conventional 2d cockpits. Due to the complexity of the RealGauge technology, and the guaranteed frame rate increase, this product is designed to be completely flown from the Virtual Cockpit. A basic 2D is included with a GPS pop-up.

3D Virtual Cockpit night lighting The virtual cockpit of the Black Shark comes equipped with realistic and high-definition night lighting effects and textures. Flood lighting can be toggled using the cockpit lighting controls.

FSX camera views Camera views are unique to the FSX version of this product. They allow the virtual pilot to move the viewpoint into a number of unique and helpful viewpoints. To change the camera mode use the ‘S’ key. To change cameras, use the ‘A’ key. Alternatively, clicking the main Flight Simulator window will bring up a quick and easy to use menu system.

Aircraft information and specifications The Ka-50 was developed in the 1990s after bitter losses in Afghanistan from ground fire. Unlike previous attack helicopters, the Ka-50 adopted a single man approach, light weight, extensive armour and considerable firepower, all of which lead to a very powerful and highly manoeuvrable battle field surviving attack helicopter. Like previous Kamov helicopters the Ka-50 uses twin contra rotating main rotors which negate the power sucking tail rotor seen on other helicopters and make the aircraft safer to re-arm and re-fuel whilst still running in a combat quick turnaround situation. The Ka-50 is fully acrobatic and able to perform loops, rolls and the highly effective 'funnel' manoeuvre, also called circle strafing. This requires the nose to be pointed down at the target and for the helicopter to fly sideways in a circular motion around the target, thus eliminating all areas of cover. Primary weapons are the Vikhr laser guided anti tank missiles and the semi fixed 30mm cannon either side of the fuselage. Being semi fixed allows greater rigidity and thus accuracy at range, the contra rotating rotors with no lag from a tail rotor system allow rapid rotation in the yaw axis both left and right equally' a flight system aligned to the pilots head sights sees that the cannon/airframe can be traversed and lined up almost as quickly as the free ranging turret on the AH-64 Apache. MFD The Black Shark has a complicated and non-documented MFD in its cockpit. We have attempted to recreate the moving map display as authentically as possible. The MFD only has one mode of operation. Loaded flight plans are automatically displayed on the map. Controls(1) Zoom map IN (2) Zoom map OUT (3) Power control
The main display shows flight plan information, including time to next waypoint, current lat/lon co-ordinates, current heading (both true & magnetic) and current distance to destination. Map scale is shown in the bottom right corner of the moving map display.
