Ocean Grove: Annotated Visual Display Assessment Task: Annotated Visual Display What is it? An annotated visual display is a combination of visuals and summaries of observations. This information is then used to answer a hypothesis, a question to test with the observation you have made. What does it look like? The annotated visual display is a large poster. Yours will contain your observations from the field trip and your responses to the hypothesis. Its set out as a poster of various graphics, these are labelled and either underneath or near each visual you find a paragraph discussing the issue. Example below. _________

Hypothesis: Australians have a preference for living near the coast. What effect does this have on the management of the Australian coastline specifically at Ocean Grove and the Barwon Coast? What do I do to my excursion booklet?  Make sure all your sketches and profiles in your booklet are neat, clear and labelled.  Colour and complete with a key the Melways map of Barwon Coast  Turn your survey results into graphs eg: line, bar and pie graphs.  Complete the tasks below under the four subheadings  Stick your visuals onto poster paper along with the summaries under the four subheadings.

What do I need to write in the four paragraphs?

Task One. Subheading One: Management strategies in evidence in Ocean Grove. Use:Melways map with warnings, zones, cautions. Field sketch of Ocean Grove beach from the Lookout Survey of Ocean Grove beach. Graphs of survey results Include in paragraph: Summary of what the evidence shows about management strategies in use. (a) Mention laws, rules and (b) built structures eg: signs etc. (c)What do you think is the aim behind each type of management eg: protect the environment, human safety, reduce damage etc. (d)Talk about how this helps in managing all that takes place in the area like fishing, boating, surfing and other water based activities. 5 MARKS Task Two. Subheading Two: The marine environment of the Barwon Coast of Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads. Use: Profile of Barwon River Estuary Profile of 13th Beach Sketch of Ocean Grove Beach from the lookout. Sketch of 13th Beach Include in paragraph: This shows your understanding of the natural environment on the coast. Summary of the following environments (a) estuary, (b) Ocean Grove swimming beach and spit and (c) 13th Beach surf beach using technical like dunes etc. Describe for each (i) their appearance and (ii) how they are formed, the natural processes and why they are the shape you observed. 5 MARKS Task Three. Subheading Three: Evaluate the management of this marine environment by comparing Ocean Grove to 13th Beach. Use: Profiles on both beaches Sketches of both beaches Include in paragraph: Your opinions and views on wether management of these environments are successful in of (a) how the laws, rules and physical evidence are aimed at protecting the natural resource and (b) how the laws, rules and physical evidence are allowing access for use of the resource by humans. (c) Mention any places where these activities could clash and cause a problem between people or the environment. (d) Discuss any thing you think is missing in managing the tourists who come to the Barwon Coast. (e) Can all people safely access the beaches all the time? Give explanations and examples to your views.5 MARKS Task Four. Subheading Four: Design and justify your strategies to manage the Ocean Grove area. Use: All the information you have and come up with some plans on your own. Include in your paragraph or map: Talk about what you would do if you were in charge. Do you want greater human access to the beaches or none at all? Do you want to make money or make it more exciting? Get creative. 5 MARKS
