Each should be described with active verb . (please see provided list.) You will e-mail your resume to me for review. I have also provided my resume as an example and examples provided by the Career Center.

Cover Letters Address to a specific name and title. Writing style should be direct, powerful, and error free. Edit to eliminate extraneous words and to check grammar, spelling, and punctuation. In addition to stating your purpose, the letter tells the reader how well you communicate. Use appropriate language. Repeat that the employer uses. Avoid jargon and the ive voice. The cover letter should be no more than one page. Keep the letter short and to the point. Three or four paragraphs will suffice: ● Paragraph 1: State your interest and purpose. ● Paragraph 2 (& 3): Highlight your resume by stressing what you will do for the employer. ● Paragraph 3: Request an interview and thank the reader for their time and consideration.

If you wear a beard, it should be neatly trimmed. Mustaches should also be trimmed. Do not have dirty fingernails no matter what type of job you are applying for. OPE-Scholarships Minority and Friends Network/James M. Chitwood Travel Scholarship The Oshkosh Placement Exchange is committed to offering candidates a high quality, affordable, national placement exchange experience. The Minority & Friends Network/James M. Chitwood Travel Scholarship Fund was established to provide an annual financial award to recipients in of that goal. The Minority & Friends Network/James M. Chitwood Travel Scholarship selects up to ten (10) OPE candidates to receive an award of $200 to cover job search expenses. We know a successful job search rarely ends at OPE; that's why this travel scholarship can be used in of any job search related expense, not just OPE expenses. In 2017, we will award ten (10) scholarships; six (6) for Bachelors level professionals and four (4) for Masters level professionals.

OPE Travel Assistance These awards are available to any OPE Candidate! To be eligible to apply, you must ■ ■ ■

Be a ed candidate for OPE; Have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 (Bachelors)/3.0 (Masters); Possess broad student affairs experience.

The cover letter should address the following: 1) Why you are choosing a career in Student Affairs; 2) How you will continue to encourage student engagement in the field of student affairs; 3) How receiving the award would impact you. OPE 101- Blurb Example I found my ion for Residence Life during my tenure as a Resident Assistant at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. The idea of building and cultivating a community was an ideal match for my personality and talents, which then led me to pursue a master’s degree in student affairs. Currently, I am the Graduate Assistant for Community Standards and Student Conduct at Wright State University and serve as a liaison to Residence Life and Housing. This position has taught me how to a community through adjudication of incidents of alleged misconduct in the residential communities, provide development opportunities to Resident Assistants and Community Directors on proper incident and crisis management techniques and reporting structures. During my graduate career, I have held various internships that have allowed me to grow in: crisis management and response, international student affairs, diversity education, and the assessment of programs. I am enthusiastically seeking a Residence Life position. Available June 2017. Geographically flexible.

OPE 101- Pre-Scheduling If an employer has interest/you have interest in an employer make sure to send them a message through the OPE portal. You don’t have to accept EVERY invitation to interview.

On Site Scheduling You will receive a written invitation to schedule an interview and you will goto the scheduling center right by the mailboxes in Titan Lounge to schedule.
