Time yourself and apportion at least the last three (3) minutes to fill out unanswered portions of the exam. Know when to move on. Thoroughly determine what the question is asking. Always choose the best answer. Never leave any items blank. No rightwrong. Bring food/chewing gum.

Know when to fully read, when to skim, and when to scan. Always, always read the questions first before gobbling up the material. Never answer on the basis of material other than the assigned reading. Dig up your lessons on context clues from your GE English classes/high school English classes. Make it a point to read all choices.

ASSIGNED MATERIAL IS TOO LONG HACKS: 1. Look at the first and last sentences of the age. 2. Clues = words and phrases such as “in essence”, “clearly”, “in sum/conclusion”, etc usually convey the main thought of the age.

Determine what the question is asking (5Ws, 1H). SCAN the material for all answers pertinent to the question. Double-check if the specific answer is what the question asks. Never select the answer which contains any wrong information, no matter how correct another statement may be.

Two different questions: either they ask for the meaning or the different connotations of the word. Scan all sentences where the word is used. Encircle the words as they appear in the age. Discriminate using context clues indicated in the material.

Merely a ruse; stick to the point the material is trying to make. Questions regarding “What do you feel the title should be?” – stick to the main theme of the article. Other choices may appeal to the emotion but are more often than not the incorrect choice.
