Introduction

Pops is a comic story of a man who behaves in a funny way to amuse his audience. A nighttime entertainment.

This book contains five episodes of Pops. It used similar elements with a screenplay/stage play script. However, it is a comic play/drama. This method is used so that a clear picture of events can be seen in the mind of the reader.

Episode 4

Flat Earth Evidence

{Int. Pops’ room - Day}

Pops and a young male child; Peter, is sitting on the couch.

Pops (holding a laptop) Hey, Peter, you’re just nine years old and yet to enter science class. Am I right? Peter

(nods) Yes. Pops Let me quickly show you how the earth looks like before they corrupt your brain. You see, this world is a flat planet. (a worrying look appears on Peter’s face) Don’t be fooled by some haters of religion. (opens a picture on the laptop; showing a desert) You see the land, flat! Peter (touches Pops’ thigh) u… Pops (glances at Peter with a serious look on his face. He nods and opens another picture on the laptop; showing the sea) You see the sea, flat! Peter (puts his right hand on his head) u… Pops (opens another picture on the laptop; showing the sky) You see up there, that’s a glass dome. The sky is made of glass. There’s no

asteroid. They’re all made up stories, I’m sure someone will narrate it to you in a dumb class someday. Peter (shakes Pops’ thigh rigorously) No… Pops (displeased) Hey, kid, What! Peter (a worrying look appears on his face) You’re sleeping and talking again! Pops (surprised) No! When? Peter (in a low tone) The Earth is a globe. Pops Jesus Christ!!!

Family Dinner

{Int. sitting room - Night}

Pops, his wife and two children are sitting around the dining table.

Pops Now, before we eat, we need to worship God; the giver of life, who has given us the privilege to eat again. So, let us close our eyes for prayer. (everyone closes their eyes) Father, I reference your name because you’ve done what no one can do. Thank you for… FORTY–FIVE MINUTES LATER

Pops All we pray in Jesus name! (stays for a while) In Jesus name!!

(peeps and opens his eyes) What! (looks on the table and only sees his plate of food) Is this a dream? Come on! Where are these people? (looks into the sitting room and sees his wife and children sleeping before the television) Jesus Christ!!!

{Int. Pops’ parlour/James’ Bedroom - Day}

Pops is reading newspapers on the couch. Suddenly the phone rings.

Pops (picks the phone call) Hello?

James (over the telephone) It’s me, your friend James! Pops Good! James! Why did you call me with an unknown caller? James Hahaha! It’s God o… Pops (over the telephone) All right, so, how are you doing? James It’s God o… Pops Seriously? James Hehehe! It’s God o. Pops Yesterday I heard you escaped a terrible accident, am I right? James It’s God o… Pops

Glory be to God! But how did it happen? Were you sitting at the back of the bus or in front that nothing happened to you? James Hahaha! It’s God o… Pops (frowns) It’s all right, glory be to God! James Please, I wanted to know what Mr Tony asked us to come with tomorrow. Pops It’s God o… (ends phone call)

Emergency Unit

{Int. Office - Day}

Pops Saurree and his female colleague; Annie Wan are sitting on their seats in front of their tables.

Annie looks on the screen of the office telephone.

Pops What are you doing, Annie? Annie Just checking to see if my brother called while I was away, Pops Saurree. Pops O my God! Leave the Pops, just call me Saurree! How many times will I have to tell you that? Annie That’s me for you, Pops Saurree. Pops (sighs and relaxes on his chair) Okay, so, how many times will I tell you not to call your siblings with this emergency line? Annie It’s free that’s why I use it. Pops Chinese!

(sighs) Whatever. Annie (stands) Please, I want to visit the restroom. I’ll be back. (walks out) Suddenly, telephone rings. Pops (picks the telephone call) Hello! This is the federal emergency unit, how may I help you? Caller (over the telephone) Hello, can I speak to Annie Wan? Pops Yes! You can speak to me. Caller (over the telephone) No! I want to speak to Annie Wan! Pops Yes, I understand that you want to speak to anyone. You can speak to me. Please, whom am I speaking with and how may I help you?

Caller (over the telephone) I am Sam Wan, and I need to speak to Annie Wan. It’s urgent! Pops I know you are someone, and you want to speak to anyone. But what’s the urgent matter about? Caller (over the telephone) Well, just tell my sister Annie Wan that our brother Neo Wan was involved in an accident. Neo Wan was injured and now, Neo Wan has been sent to the hospital. I’m on my way already, let her bring little Evra Wan to the hospital. Pops If no one was injured and no one was sent to the hospital, why should everyone go to the hospital? Look! You may find this hilarious, this is not a joke factory, that’s 911 you dialled there! I don’t have time for this! Caller (over the telephone) You are so rude! Who are you? Pops I’m Sauree and you’re calling an emergency line! Caller (over the telephone) Yes! You should be sorry! Now, give me your name.

Pops Hey! That’s what I just said, don’t joke with me because I’m Sauree! Caller (over the telephone) Oh God! Pops (quits the telephone call) Rubbish!

Dinner

{Int. Kitchen - Night}

Pops is opening his mouth under an illuminated AC bulb.

Peter

(walks in) Pops! What are you doing? Pops Hey, Peter! Thank goodness you’re here. (points a stool) Sit there and me now, else you’ll regret later. Peter (sits on the stool, opens his mouth and faces up) Why are we doing this? Pops Doctor said dinner should be light!
