Sinopsis Lengkap Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials diawali dari Thomas dan remaja lainnya yang disebut sebagai “The Gladers” berhasil melarikan diri dari labirin yang disebut “Tha Maze”. Mereka tertidur di bawah pengawasan sekelompok penyelamat. Thomas terbangun akibat dari berkomunikasi secara telepati dengan Teresa, satu-satunya perempuan dalam kelompok itu, yang ketakutan. Saat ia bangun, ia menemukan bahwa fasilitas perlindungan mereka sedang diserang oleh zombie “The Cranks”, akibat dari wabah yang dikenal sebagai “the Flare”. Dia dan yang lainnya melarikan diri dari serangan zombie setelah menemukan bahwa kelompok penyelamat mereka mati. Mereka juga menemukan Terese sudah tidak ada di kamarnya dan yang ada justru seorang anak bernama Aris Jones. The Gladers kembali memasuki daerah umum dan menemukan mayat penyelamat mereka sudah hilang. Thomas disembuhkan untuk kemudian dikembalikan ke Gladers yang menjelaskan bahwa WICKED tidak pernah menginginkan Thomas ditembak dan bahwa ia sangat penting. Thomas kemudian mendapatkan pesan telepati dari Teresa yang memperingatkan dia bahwa sesuatu yang sangat buruk akan terjadi dan Teresa tidak akan bisa membantunya.

Nearby, bright macaws flock from the canopy and fly to where they can no longer hear the chainsaws and bulldozers. An ocelot scrambles along the ground, dodging other frightened animals in search of her cubs. From the air, the rainforest looks serene, but within the layers of trees, thousands of species find themselves caught in life-threatening situations. Why are these animals endangered daily? Why are 78 million acres of rainforests destroyed each year without so much as a blink of the eye from us? Deforestation is a controversial topic that’s not in the limelight enough for us to understand what the big deal is, which is a problem. Saving the rainforest is not something that only “tree-huggers” and Greenpeace activists should be concerned about, it’s an issue that all of society needs to become more aware of. The repercussions of deforestation affect the species within the forests as well as individuals who live far from it. Why aren’t governments doing more to prevent this loss? It is often because they are the ones using deforestation as a means of financial development or economic growth. It is imperative that governments introduce bans prohibiting deforestation since it threatens plants, animals, and perhaps surprisingly, humanity. The developing environmental ramifications of this deforestation will haunt humans if it is not confronted immediately. For example, the excessive burning of trees releases large amounts of poisonous carbon dioxide gas, which contributes to global warming. As experts have reiterated time and again, the consequences of deforestation for 20-30% of annual ozone damage. This burning will continue to deplete the ozone layer that keeps us safe from harmful UV rays. There are many economic, social, and political aspects that must be considered when discussing the benefits and consequences of deforestation. Many governments argue that expansive rainforests are actually a surplus that needs to be used to provide living space since overpopulation has become an increasing challenge of third-world nations. However, under the surface of their seemingly good intentions is an intricate plan for financial development and taxation. By cutting the forests to make jobs for locals, the government creates the illusion that they are helping whereas, in reality, they are using it to ensure that the new jobs will increase taxable income which will provide larger government income. Although high birth rates, lower death rates, and overpopulation have given governments no choice but to make room for people, deforestation is not the most effective or best ethical choice. Another large motive behind deforestation being ignored by the media is that indigenous

peoples are directly affected by the destruction of rainforests. Nearly all of these people live in cultures that have not changed with the development of technology. They are unaware of the world outside the rainforests. When their homes are torn down, where do they go? These questions are still relatively murky, but what we do know is that deforestation has resulted in cultures disappearing. It is important to realize that rainforest deforestation is more than a controversial issue. It is an issue that presents a threat to all plants, animals, indigenous people and even you and me. The role of the rainforests is not just to provide beauty. The tropical rainforests are vital in sustaining life. And in our increasingly threatened times, sustaining life should be our highest priority. As Dr. Seuss wrote, “I am the Lorax, I speak for the trees.” By studying the flaws and complications of deforestation, it’s apparent that we all need to become more like the Lorax and work toward a better world - despite the challenges.

Rainforests, should we cut them down or not? Probably one of the biggest questions the world has to overcome. Sure, rainforests supply us with a lot of resources and we could surely not live without cutting some of them down, but should we be cutting them down at the rate we are? To be exact, the statistic estimates 1.5 acres of natural rainforests are being destroyed every second. While this practise supplies us with resources like timber for furniture, it also reduces the amount of oxygen supply. Rainforests once covered 14% of the worlds land surface, however now it only covers a mere 6%. It is estimated that all rainforests could be consumed in less than 40 years. Trees are becoming more needed and used everyday. We need them cut down for many reasons such as paper and timber, while also needing them ‘untouched’ for other reasons like oxygen, we have to ask ourselves, which is more important? At the current rate, most of the rainforests are being cut down for resources like paper and timber, but less importance is being placed on main resources like oxygen. Simply speaking, rainforests are basically the foundation of the earth. The most important role that rainforests play is ‘the lungs of the earth’. This is extremely vital to the earth’s survival as the trees and plants absorb carbon dioxide which they use to help grow and let out oxygen which we need to live. This system is known as the carbon-oxygen cycle and with numbers of rainforests declining, it is highly threatened. The largest rainforest in the world, the Amazon, alone is known to produce half of the world’s oxygen. A break down in the carbon-oxygen cycle means that we will not only have less oxygen, but an increase in carbon dioxide which eventually leads to global warming. This occurs as carbon dioxide traps heat which actually keeps the earth warm, with the right amount of carbon

dioxide that is. This is called the greenhouse effect and occurs naturally however due to decreasing number of trees, there is more carbon dioxide than needed which traps extra heat making the earth hotter than needed, this is known as global warming which also causes a rise in sea level. The world’s climate is kept stable and suitable to live in, mainly by rainforests, in a number of ways. They are often known as ‘climate controllers’. They keep the planet cool, as they absorb much of the suns heat, instead of reflecting it back into the atmosphere. Another way is as it rains, the water is quickly drawn through various rainforest plants, which then returns to the air as water vapour, and eventually creates clouds causing it to rain again. This cycle or process also cools the surrounding air by up to five degrees. However, due to the destruction of rainforests, nearly half the world’s plant species, which contribute to controlling the climate, will become extinct. It is believed that we are losing 137 plant species every single day. How often do we think about where food comes from? Many foods we eat don’t just come from the shop you bought it from, but beyond that in rainforests. Food like many fruits and vegetables were discovered in rainforests, other food including nuts, ginger, pepper, vanilla, cocoa and plenty more. Approximately 80% of the worlds diet originated in rainforests. At least 3000 fruits have been discovered in rainforests. Even the gum used to make chewing gum comes from special trees in rainforests. Rainforests also supply food for many animals that live in there, while also supplying food for native and indigenous people. Rainforests can also be known as a medicine chest. Currently 126 prescription drugs sold world wide have come from rainforests, however only a measly 2% of rainforest plant species have been tested by scientists. More than 7000 medicines have been made from rainforest plants which are used world wide to cure many illnesses and even diseases. The United States of America National Cancer Institute has discovered 3000 plants that are active against cancer cells, 70% of these plants are all found in the Amazon rainforest. 25% of today’s cancer treatment drugs come from plant extracts in rainforests. An extract from a plant called periwinkle, found in the African rainforests, is one of the most popular and most effective anticancer drugs and has dramatically increased the survival rate of many cancer sufferers. Maybe, one day, we could even find an ultimate cure for cancer; however with the rate we are clearing rainforests, this may seem unlikely. The rainforest is home to many animals and also village people or indigenous people who basically live of the rainforests while still not destroying them. It is known that at least half of all known animal and plant species live in rainforests. Over 50 million indigenous people live in rainforests worldwide. Retrieving medicine, food, shelter and oxygen don’t require actually cutting down trees, or if so not in large amounts or at a rapid rate. Those are just some of the great pleasures rainforests give us including being a ‘climate controller’ and holding the status of being the ‘lungs of the earth’. However many other

resources or pleasures that rainforests give us like paper and timber, requires us to cut them down. With the worlds growing population the demand for timber, needed for building, is increasing causing more trees to be cut down at a quicker rate. Rainforests are also being cleared for farming and development which is a bigger risk to them. Coming down to the biggest question facing the world; Rainforests, the lungs of the earth or a resource there for taking? Fair enough, it provides us with resources such as paper and timber and promotes economy in poorer countries. However just think about it! Is it not mostly for materialistic gain? People are just greedy for money, that’s just the human nature. Rainforests is a big economical gain and some countries actually rely on this, however there is no need to cut down an excessive amount of trees to continue the supply of products they give us, where as you can recycle, and with modern technology, paper, one of the main reasons rainforests are being cleared for, is being made using wheat straw which reproduces much quicker than tree’s. Consumers are also to be blamed as they take rainforest products for granted, they could easily recycle items such as paper but many of them are simply too lazy. Many students are being educated about recycling and recycling programmes are being set up in communities, which in the near future, can hopefully slow down the rate of which rainforests are being cleared. Consumers can also help by buying rainforest items that are recycled or come from trustworthy companies. The government can also help by creating laws against the destruction of rainforests. We simply just need to work together to create a better future. With the continuation of deforestation, the outlook of planet earth seems unliveable, do we really want this? Trying is just not good enough these days with paper and timber companies expanding, which means you just have to try harder! By saving the rainforests, you’re saving mankind!!

Rainforest: an ordinary word which describes something truly magnificent. Tropical rainforests are the most diverse ecosystems on earth. A four-square mile patch of rainforest contains as many as 3085 different species of animals, plants and insects. However, the rainforests are being cut down and destroyed at a rapid and horrifying rate, every year an area the size of England is being destroyed. This shocking fact is something that we cannot simply dismiss, we think of England, our home and how important it is to us. The Cotswolds, picturesque with rich history, the hustle and bustle of our capital London, always lit up. We would never give this up, so why are we giving up the rainforest? London, the city that never sleeps is filled with life and houses 7,556,900 people. The rainforest which used to be home to around 1 million Indians now houses little more than 200 000 due to deforestation. The rainforest covers just 7 per cent of the world’s surface and is inhabited by over 50 per cent of the world’s

species. We would never destroy London and let the lights go out; we definitely should not be forcing the rainforests and all of its life into eternal ruin. When we are losing almost 137 animal, insect and plant species per day, totalling the extinction of around 50 000 species per year, it is easy to feel powerless. As we learn more about the devastating reality of the state of our rainforests, the pressure is increased in our desires to help. There are many ways which can help to rescue, restore and revive the rainforest in its time of desperate need. Every year more and more trees are being cut down for paper, therefore it is everyone’s responsibility to try and reduce the amount of paper that they use and waste. Petrol and plastic are two materials that are made from oil which is extracted from the rainforest. We must try to reduce the amount of petrol that we use; this can be achieved by walking, cycling or taking public transport whenever we possibly can. We must also make an effort to reduce the amount of plastic that we use; choose glass over plastic, and if you do have a plastic bottle ensure that you rinse and reuse it. It is clear that in everything we do we must think ‘REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE!’ This simple phrase is the key saving our rainforest. Never feel powerless. If you do feel that a company is taking advantage of the rainforest you should be active and write to them, explaining the importance of preserving the rainforest. We can also donate to projects that work actively, with the help of our money; they can continue to fight the battle to save our much loved rainforests. One of the very shocking reasons for deforestation is to clear room for cattle. This is becoming increasingly common as the demand for beef grows, particularly within the fast food companies. In the west a lot of meat is consumed within the diet due to the fairly strong economy and therefore deforestation is increasing to provide means to feed these cattle. The western people especially, have a responsibility to adapt their diets accordingly to prevent this deforestation. This does not mean cutting all meat completely out of our diets however it means that we should think and try to use more meats that have been bred locally and also eating less red meats, beef in particular. When ordering at restaurants it is a good idea to look for something that does not contain beef. Try to ensure that if you have a pet you feed it food which has alternative flavourings opposed to beef. This may seem a big ask to someone who has little interest in the rainforest, however, it is a simple and easy step that everyone can take to do their bit and save the rainforest. In conclusion, there is no instant method by which the rainforests can be saved. But, how on earth can we begin to make a difference? We must not to give up on the beauty of the rainforests, we must believe that we can make a difference, through this enthusiasm to help we can bring to light the importance of the cause to others around us. By doing this we will encourage a population of people who care about the world in which they live. This seems to be the best way on earth that we can save the rainforest.
