Errata for Strands of Fate 2e 1. Error in weapons table for shotgun DR. Should be as follows:
2. Error in Skill list on pages 7 and 18. The “Sway” category should be called “Influence”. 3. The description of the Sway Skill on pg. 18 should more clearly state that Sway is also used for intimidation. 4. Page 18 Both Mobility and Precision state that they are for hand-eye coordination. 5. Page 33 While you may not understand it, or even really except it -> accept? Yes. 6. Page 34 When creating a character for a Strands of Fantasy campaign, you may (but are not required to) select and advance in a Talent. The available Talents are Cleric, Mage, Warrior and Rogue. -> “Magic-” instead of Cleric, Mage 7. Page 61 In addition to bonuses n tests -> on 8. Page 78 Echidna takes a it that deals 2 stress -> hit ________________________________________________________________________________ Feel free to add suggestions or pose questions below: Page 24 To facilitate this, the GM should come up with at least 2 secret Aspects that only they know about at the start of the campaign. -> he/she knows? - Probably going to stick with the gender neutral “they” in this case, which we did for most of the book. - Mike --------Page 61 you could spend a FP to Invoke “Soon this city will be mine!” and gain a bonus or reroll -> Reroll is not in the benefits list above Page 66 “Compelling Extras” -> “Decelerations” are mentioned here but anywhere else in the book - Should be Declarations. - Mike Back Cover The word Creatures is missing the s. All of these fixed in latest version. Thanks! - Mike ---------
Ammunition (p 172) seems to be handled fairly abstractly. How exactly is it used? Each time a weapon is fired, is one unit of ammunition expended? How do these ammunition rules interact with the “Out of Ammo, Overheating, & Reloading” section on page 87? - Clarified in latest version. Thanks! - Mike It now reads:
Ammunition and Ammo Checks When you purchase a ranged weapon, you get 3 units of ammunition for free. A unit of ammo represents an abstract amount of individual bullets, shells, arrows, etc. A single unit might be 6 rounds in a revolver, a magazine worth of bullets for an assault rifle, 5 arrows, etc. The amount of ammo in a Unit is left intentionally vague since Strands of Fate isn’t about tracking every bullet or beam fired. So when do you run out of ammo? The GM can call for an ammo check whenever they feel like you’ve been expending ammo at a high enough rate to justify it - usually after 3-4 turns spent attacking with a ranged weapon. This is a Reasoning test, usually against a Difficulty of 2. Also note that certain special Full-Auto (pg. 85) attacks may require you to make an ammo check immediately. Should you fail to generate any Shifts on the ammo check, you run out of ammo. Your current Unit is spent and you’ll need to reload. Reloading is typically a Major Action. Additional units of ammo have a Cost of 1. You may purchase 4 units of ammo for a Cost of 2, or 16 for a Cost of 3. A character may typically carry a total number of ammo units equal to 3 + their Might Skill rating. This assumes that the character is wearing an ammo belt, a quiver, a hip pouch, or whatever you would normally carry your weapon’s extra ammo in. --------“Burst Fire” and “Spray & Pray” (p 85) both say to expend all the ammo in your magazine. What does this mean in of units of ammunition? Is one unit of ammunition the equivalent of a magazine? If so, perhaps the “Burst Fire” and “Spray & Pray” should say “expend one unit of ammunition” instead. - Clarified in latest version. Thanks! - Mike --------For Character Power Level, I suggest swapping “Mythic” with “Legendary”. So the scale would go Grounded < Heroic < Paragon < Legendary < Mythic. I consider myths to be grander than legends - for example, the war between the Greek gods and the Titans, or the events of Ragnarok - both cosmos-altering events - are referred to as myths. The Arthurian legend or the story of Beowulf would be examples of a legends to me - definitely grand stories involving the supernatural and the fate of kingdoms, but much reduced in scope compared to a myth. - Eh, I can see it go either way, and it’s a bit too late in the game to make a change this large. - Mike --------Page 5 it contains an multiple references to Threads which were changed to Deviations during development. Fixed in latest version. Thanks! - Mike --------Page 10, Page 18: There are references to Education which might have been changed to Knowledge (or Knowledge should have been Education - either way I’d stick with Education since even the description leans more towards an academic skill): “Some sample tests include: Looking up an obscure fact (Education)” “Knowledge – Education measures “book learning.””
- Fixed in latest version. At this stage, I think we’ll stick with “Knowledge”, but I don’t really disagree with you.. Thanks! - Mike Page 26: Sample Pitch & Campaign Aspects. I’d change the wording of the Campaign Aspects since they don’t look like aspects IMO (they’re more like Issues in Fate Core, that game aspects are made of as a next step). For example: (Secret) The Undead Were Raised by a Merchant Guild Hoping to Profit from the War and Recovery Effort to (Secret) Greedy (un)Death Dealers or (Secret) Undead Menace is Good For Business They might not be cleverly worded Aspects (which was intentional for the sake of clarity), but they should work just fine. - Mike --------Page 213 Encumbrance -> What if the character has Might = 0? Applying the formulae he will not be able to carry anything… I added a “(Min 2)” note in there. Thanks! - Mike ________________ All revisions above this line incorporated into Sept 9th update._______________ Put new errors in this section: Page 19 Threads referenced instead of deviations (has been mentioned before) “Note, however, that certain Threads may affect how your Resources rating may change over time. Your Strand should tell you which of these Threads, or any, you are using.” Fixed -Mike Page 13: Minor Aspects. They look like Boosts in Fate Core which are not aspects, but just simple invocations so they can’t be compelled. Can Minor Aspects be Compelled? Yep. Minor Aspects are exactly like normal Aspects, but tend to vanish after being used. -Mike Page 20: Stress Track. Let’s say I’d like to play a Goblin with Might 0 and Resolve 0. Goblin’s Size is -1 so he has no stress boxes, correct? Can a creature’s Stress Track be at 0? Just to clarify. Yes, the minimum should be 1. I added a “(min 1)” caveat. -Mike Page 22: Halfling. Bonus Aspect. Every other race has Speciality Aspect. Is it supposed to be that way? Yes, this is intentional because “Insatiable Curiosity” is too broad to be a specialty, and reflects their personality more than a use of a Skill or a representation of training. - Mike Random friendly advice: You should think about index. The book is not a small one, so it would be awesome to find things through index. For instance, I don’t what Potency is, but all those hyperlinked chapters, while convenient in general, won’t help me in finding that quickly - index will.
I went back and forth on this a lot, and eventually ended up deciding to not do an Index because everything that I would have wanted to look up can be easily found in the Contents. In regards to “Potency” specifically, it’s probably not something that would end up in the index anyway. This is because Potency is a sort of generic term used by the rules for Block, Diseases, Poisons, etc. So, presumably, you would instead want to look up the rules for Blocks, Diseases, or whatever sub-rule you’re working with. - Mike Not really an error but based on this thread: https://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?834101-A-print-shop-refused-to-print-character-sheets-because-they-are -copyrighted-material&p=22135427#post22135427 You might want to consider adding a line to the pages of player/GM printable material given them the permission to. Yeah, I’ll make a note to do that. -Mike Page 34: Strands of Fantasy. Characters. There’s a following typo: “But all of these backgrounds and skill sets tend to fall into one of four broad categories, called Talents.” Should be: “But all of these backgrounds and skill sets tend to fall into one of three broad categories, called Talents.” Fixed! Thanks. - Mike Page 57: Strands of Chrome and Neon. Deviations. There’s a following typo: “This Strand has a tendency to focus on the acquisition of wealth, and how that wealth is turned into power. As such, the Dynamic Resources (pg. 212) Deviation is required. In addition to one of the above Deviations, the following Deviations are also recommended to the themes important to this Strand; though they aren’t required.” Should be: “This Strand has a tendency to focus on the acquisition of wealth, and how that wealth is turned into power. As such, the Dynamic Resources (pg. 212) Deviation is required. In addition to the above Deviation, the following Deviations are also recommended to the themes important to this Strand; though they aren’t required.” Fixed! Thanks. - Mike Page 58: Strands of Chrome and Neon. New Trait: Tolerance. There’s a following typo: “You make take measures to change the Consequence, potentially rewording it or switching it from a Wound to a Complication, but the Consequences’ severity cannot change.” Should be: “You may take measures to change the Consequence, potentially rewording it or switching it from a Wound to a Complication, but the Consequences’ severity cannot change.” Fixed! Thanks. - Mike Page 61: Invoking an Aspect. Typo: “In addition to bonuses n tests” Should be: “In addition to bonuses on tests” (probably - english is my second language, mind you) You’re right, it should be “on”. However, it actually does say “on”. Could be an issue with your reader? - Mike
Page 66: Sample Compulsion. Again, the sentence might be little confusing - either you Invoke an aspect or Compel it: That’s incorrect. Offering a Compel is one of the 4 options you may choose from when you Invoke an Aspect, as per page 61. - Mike Page 76: Stress & Consequences. Wounds. I suggest changing the following sentence as the Example Wounds bar is basically in the middle of the page, not below: […]broken arms, bullet holes, and so on. T hese are Wound Consequences, and some examples can be found below: To: […]broken arms, bullet holes, and so on – as shown in the Example Wounds bar. Fixed! Thanks. - Mike
Page 82 Beam Sweep: “Before the attack is made, determine how many targets you are trying to hit. You will then make an attack test against each target, with a penalty equal to the total number to enemies you intend to attack. So if you intended to attack 3 security drones, you’d make an attack against all four of them with a -3 penalty. “ Should probably be: “Before the attack is made, determine how many additional targets you are trying to hit. You will then make an attack test against each target, with a penalty equal to the total number of additional enemies you intend to attack. So if you intended to attack 3 additional security drones, you’d make an attack against all four of them with a -3 penalty. “ Fixed! Thanks. - Mike
Page 99 Mythic Skills: If you are of Mythic Power Level when you take this Perk, you may increase the rank of two Skills, rated less than 5, by 1; or increase one Skill rated 4 or more by 1 (to a max of 7). -> rated 5 or more Fixed! Thanks. - Mike Mythic Versatility and Legendary Versatility Mythic Versatility and Legendary Versatility have been reworded to state that you may select two Heroic or lesser Perks or two Paragon o r lesser Perks respectively. - Mike Page 127: Barrier: Duration: 1 Hour by default but have an enhancement: Extended Duration (Scene): Once activated, your Barrier lasts the duration of the Scene, or about 5 minutes. Barrier should have a duration of Scene, with an Ext Duration Enhancement that bumps it to an hour. - Mike Page 133: Bolt enhancement Full-Auto refer to a missing rule “Empty the Clip (pg. 85)“ Good catch. We renamed “Empty the Clip” to “Spray and Pray” late in development. - Mike Page 213: Dynamic Resources. There’s Reputation Track instead of Resource Track: “If a loss causes you to erase all of your ticks, reduce your Resources Rating by 1. Then refill your Reputation Track, leaving only enough boxes unchecked to for your hits.” Should be:
“If a loss causes you to erase all of your ticks, reduce your Resources Rating by 1. Then refill your Resource Track, leaving only enough boxes unchecked to for your hits.” Oops. Thanks. - Mike Page 216: Character Development. Achievements. Typo: “When you use this Deviaton, in addition to yo your characters long term goal(s) as defined by their Aspects, your character will want to pursue certain short-term goals; which are called Personal Achievements.” Should be: “When you use this Deviation, in addition to your characters long term goal(s) as defined by their Aspects, your character will want to pursue certain short-term goals; which are called Personal Achievements.” Thanks. - Mike Andrea Parducci page 8, I think this phrase can be improved: They are sort of like “tags” that are placed on people, places and things that can be Invoked to grant yourself and advantage or hinder your foes. Thanks. - Mike Kaz Was a vehicle section intentionally left out? Yes. We’re planning to expand on vehicles in a later supplement. For now, if you are looking for compatible vehicle rules, consider taking a look at the vehicle rules in Nova Praxis. They should require very little conversion. - Mike Mike, so that we know, what’s the deadline for sending you all those suggestions? I’m pushing out an update today (Oct 14th), and planning to order print proofs sometime early next week. Mike So i’d say, if you are aware of any issues, please try to get them in ASAP. ________________All revisions above this line incorporated into Oct 14th update.________________ Put new errors in this section: Page 13 Invoke Aspect / Page 82 Block. Recommend clarifying Block by adding the fact it’s initiated by invoking an aspect with a fate point. Typo in para 2 “External Aspects are usually standard Aspects, though hey could be Major….” Should be “External Aspects are usually standard Aspects, though they could be Major….” Page 27 Character Experience Level. Typo in section on Adept “The character has been practicing their trade for a short amount of time, and is comfortable with, and competent at, doing what the do.” Should be “The character has been practicing their trade for a short amount of time, and is comfortable with, and competent at, doing what they do.”
Page 210 character creation during play. Last paragraph: “In this way you can build characters as you This Deviation help players jump directly into play, [...” I’m honestly not sure what you intended instead of This Deviation. Page 222, Sequence example: “Making a Might test against the Sequence Difficulty (let’s say 4), you’d get a +3 bonus because the DR of your mono-edge blade is 5, and half of that rounded down is 3.” 5 rounded down give 2, not 3. And the DR for mono-edge longsword is correctly 5.
Page 150, Stable Master: reference to cost. Not sure what that means here. I’m guessing it’s left over before switching from the AP system.
-----I know this is not the right place to put this, but I’m going to drop this here for those that care. Since I couldn’t find any other community, I created a reddit for Strands of Fate. https://www.reddit.com/r/Strands_of_Fate/ I hope this is ok.
