The "Lowest Level Linked to Cancer" for magnetic fields is 2.0 mG for childhood leukemia, based on the Swedish epidemiological study by Feychting and Ahlborn in 1993. Several other studies have found similar links to childhood cancer at levels of 3 mG and higher. 2

The "Average Level in Average US Home" for magnetic fields is derived from nationwide research studies and confirmed by my own testing experience. The average levels for electric fields and RF fields are based on professional experience here in Northern California. 3

The official safety level depends on frequency. Value shown is for 2.0 GHz frequency and higher.

The "General Public Cautionary Level" is based on our personal understanding of the EMF research, but leaning toward extra precaution. For example for magnetic fields, to offer some margin of safety below the 2.0 mG linked to cancer, I might suggest a safety level of 0.5mG.

The "EMF Hypersensitivity Advisory" is a very strict safety standard that colleagues like myself sometimes offer to our highly EMF sensitive clients. Anecdotally, we have found that it is often necessary to get exposures below the levels for sensitive individuals to report relief of symptoms. (These reduced levels are usually well below the levels found in the average home. There is no guarantee that these reduced levels will be low enough for any particular sensitive person. This is especially true with RF Fields, because many people have reported symptoms at even lower levels. It is also very difficult to determine which particular RF frequencies might actually be the issue for any particular individual). 9
