UNIT 13: HOBBIES LESSON : LANGUAGE FOCUS I.OBJECTIVES: Aims: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: - Understand and distinguish consonant clusters /pt/, /bd/, /ps/ and /bz/ in individual words and in utterances. - Understand and apply cleft sentences to do exercises and communicate. Teaching aids:laptop, speaker, textbook. II. METHODS: Integrated, mainly communicative. III. PROCEDURE: TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES Warm-up (5 minutes): - T asks Ss to work in group and put the - Ss work in groups and do the task. following words in the correct column: Suggested answers: hoped, described, crops, sobs, knobs, /pt/ /bd/ /ps/ /bz/ jumps, robbed, cropped, helped, crabbed, hoped described crops sobs equips, labs. cropped robbed jumps knobs helped crabbed equips labs - Can you tell me what sounds do we learn today? Pronunciation (8 minutes): - T plays the tape and asks Ss to listen to it once. - T plays the tape again and asks Ss to repeat the words they hear. - T invites 2 Ss to re-pronounce the words in Listen and repeat part. - T explains 4 consonant clusters /pt/, /bd/, /ps/ and /bz/. - T plays the tape and asks Ss to look at the sentences in Practise reading aloud these sentences and listen to the tape. - T invites 6 Ss to read aloud 6 sentences in the textbook. T corrects mistakes if any.
