Yr 2 - Nocturnal Animals 4135z

Topic outline: Literacy: We will be researching facts about nocturnal animals and using these to create posters and fact books. We will use books and the internet to help us with our research. In our fiction writing we will be looking at characters in familiar stories and writing descriptions. Mathematics: In maths we will be looking back at all the things we have done this year including telling the time, using money, 2D and 3D shapes, adding, subtracting, times tables and dividing. Topic: We are going to be Suggested books: continuing to learn about animals, The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark but this time we will be looking Owl Babies at animals who come out at night. A range of non-fiction animal books We will have a visit from the Pirates love Underpants animal man in April. We will be The Gruffalo getting The Twitsout in the garden to plant some seeds and get things growing.

Suggested visits: Visit the library and find a nonfiction book about a nocturnal animals, such as an owl, bat, fox or hedgehog. Useful Information: This term is very important for children in Year 2. They will be preparing for and then doing their SAT’s tests. Attendance is always important, and it is especially important this term. Children should be practising questions at home to get ready for the test. Speak to Miss Garvey, Mrs Lawreniuk or Mrs Marson if you need any help.

Reading: Every child has an individual reading book and it is important that they are reading at home. When reading with your child, you may want to talk about the book and ask them questions like Where is the story set? How is the character feeling? What did you think will happen next? Can you what happened at the beginning of the story?
