  Profile  Data  2015-­‐2016     THE COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL Glen A. Wilson High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school located twenty-five miles east of Los Angeles. Wilson High School serves a suburban middle class community of approximately 54,000 residents. Median income is $50,000. Over 90% of residents have completed high school, with median education at 13 years. Fifty-six percent have completed college. Wilson High School has a 6-year accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and is a member of International Baccalaureate Organization. The school maintains a traditional calendar with two 19-week semesters. Classes meet for 53 minutes a day, five days a week for two 18-week semesters. Wilson has a long history of quality education balanced with participation in Athletics, Visual and Performing Arts, Leadership and Extracurricular Activities. There are a total of 42 chartered active clubs and a comprehensive interscholastic athletic program for both boys and girls in 23 different sports.

ENROLLMENT In 2015-2016, the total student body numbers 1596, with 445 seniors, 381 juniors, 393 sophomores, and 377 freshmen. The ethnic composition consists of 32% Asian, 2% Filipino, 56% Latino, 1% African American, and 5% Caucasian. Fiftythree percent of students are on free/reduced lunch, while 72 students were designated eligible for Title I Targeted Assistance. Ninety-three students are enrolled in Special Education courses while 106 are English Learners. THE FACULTY The faculty consists of the principal, 3 assistant principals, 6 counselors, 57 teachers, and coordinators in IB, AVID, Renaissance, and Link Crew. Fifty-one percent of our staff hold a Master’s Degree or above. Our student services include two part-time psychologists, an international student counselor, and a Special Education coordinator for a wide range of student needs.

CURRICULUM Students have over 150 required and elective courses from which to choose. College preparatory subjects are emphasized but there are a variety of offerings serving the diversified needs of the students. In addition to required courses in English, Social Science, Mathematics, Science, and Physical Education, sequential courses are available in Foreign Language (Spanish, Chinese and Korean), Music, Art, Business, and STEM pathways in Biomedical Science, Engineering and Computer Science. Our International Baccalaureate program is in its 16th year, and our AVID program is in its 10th year. 2015-16 GRADE DISTRIBUTION All courses are included in the computation of the cumulative GPA (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0). Honors, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate classes are weighted in the calculation of this average, with one extra grade point awarded. Two hundred thirty credits are required for graduation.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM In 2015-2016, 31 juniors and seniors were participating in the International Baccalaureate program. In June 2015, IB diploma students scored highest in Spanish and Mandarin. Additionally, 82 IB subject certificates were awarded. Wilson continues to offer a strong pre-IB program, consisting of a series of honors classes in the 9th and 10th grades. Over 90 freshmen and sophomores are participating in the program.
