Students will identify metaphors in the poem I wandered Lonely as a Cloud b. Students will identify similes in the poem I wandered lonely as a cloud c. Students will identify personification in the poem I wandered Lonely as a Cloud 2. a. Students will identify the characteristics of Ballads by studying the poem Annabel Lee b. Students will identify the characteristics of Ballads by studying Ballads that have been turned into songs (Bleeding Love, Because of you, Love Story, and She Will be Loved) 6. Students will compose a ballad of their own by applying their knowledge of its structure WV CSOS 1. R.L.7.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in text; including figurative meanings; analyze the impact of rhymes and other repetitions (e.g. alliteration, assonance) of sounds on a specific stanza of a poem 2. R.L.7.5 Analyze how a poem’s form or structure contributes to its meaning. NATIONAL STANDARDS 6. Students apply knowledge of language structures, language conventions, media techniques, figurative language, and genre to create, critique, and discuss print and non-print texts. MANAGEMENT FRAMEWORK Overall Time 90 mins. Time Frame 5 mins. Introduce class to vocabulary needed for days activities and introduction to what I will be teaching 15 mins out copy of poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, read aloud, have the students to identify an example of a simile, metaphor, and personification within the poem, collect papers to assess their knowledge 10 mins Flip Lesson/Annabel Lee reading, explain why it is a ballad, and discuss the theme of the Poem. 15 mins. Go over ballad songs, allow them to listen to portions of each song 40 mins. Allow the students to create their own ballad poem/song

This will describe Ballad Poetry, Annabel Lee, tone and themes and why this is a ballad.  Then out copies of 4 songs  Allow them to listen to audio versions of songs while they read along.  Explain how these songs are ballads and discuss the themes and poems  out a Poem template  Allow the students to create their own musical ballads by following correct structur PROCEDURES: Closure  Take up Students Poems  Summarize the key points of the lesson  Answer any questions they have  Gather materials  Line Up ASSESSMENT: Diagnostic  Asking questions at the beginning of lesson, to gauge prior knowledge and gain interest ASSESSMENT: Formative  Asking questions as I am presenting  Having them identify metaphors, similes, and personification  Walk around an help students as they are working on their ballads ASSESSMENT: Summative  No summative assessment for this lesson MATERIALS  Computer  Speakers  Internet access
