Audience: General Public INTRODUCTION ATTENTION-GETTER: Same-sex marriage, one of the most talked about and most controversial topic in the world, is now legal in entire United Sates (U.S.) after a Supreme Court ruling strike down state marriage bans. The ruling means all states in the U.S. must grant marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples and recognizes marriages that have taken place in other states. Question is, are we (Filipinos), ready for it? SIGNIFICANCE: The topic explains why the Philippines is not yet ready for the same-sex marriage. It is an enlightenment to the long-running question “why same-sex marriage is still not legal in the Philippines when LGBT is openly embraced, respected, and accepted?” CREDIBILITY: I am currently a law school student and I have done various researches and surveys regarding the stated topic. I have also learned about the laws on marriages in the Philippines and is currently studying the proposed same-sex marriage bill.
