The revered Wankdorf Stadium with the 1954 Soccer World Cup Final between Hungary and as a milestone had not met the relevant requirements concerning safety and comfort for a number of years. Football alone could not have produced an adequate economic basis for a new stadium complex. Thanks to the multifunctionality of the new Stade de Suisse, 3.5 to 4 million guests a year are now expected. Montana products have been used in the roof. The underside of the roof is constructed from MONTAWALL® liner trays with acoustic perforation so as to ensure pleasant acoustics even when the fans give full vent to their emotions. The outer skin of the roof is made from SWISS ® trapezoidal profiles, on which an 8,000 m2 solar power plant has been mounted, enabling 200 households to be supplied with electricity for a year.

Neuenburg is setting new urban development standards with the Stade Maladière. As in other urban areas, calculations showed that only multifunctional use would facilitate economical operation. Located below the playing area and the grandstands is a two-storey basement structure with a shopping centre and car parks. The lightweight construction design with Montana profiles enabled a fine, ribbonlike lining architecture, which takes up the terrain with breaks in the gradient. In addition, the red-coated perforated SWISS ® SP 45/150 A trapezoidal profile give the underside of the roof the structure for its sound-absorption function. The outer roof is made of SWISS ® SP 111/310 trapezoidal profiles. Santiago Calatrava is famous throughout the world for his sensational projects. His trademarks: arch structures. His buildings are works of art that can hardly be overlooked. Calatrava designed the roof of the OAKA Olympic Velodrome for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. In structural , the roof is a self-ing bridge construction 145 m long, 106 m wide and a total of 46 m high. A pair of double sloping tubular steel arches are stretched over the longitudinal side of the race track, with the lateral ribs ing the roof structure suspended on their sides. Acoustic perforated SWISS ® SP 59/225 A was used for the inner ceiling of the ing shell, with SWISS ® SP 80/277 chosen as the ing shell for the outer roof seal. The round perforation in the inner ceiling ensures perfect sound insulation.

S The new Juventus stadium was inaugurated on 8 September 2011 at the location of the former Stadio delle Alpi in Turin. Architects Gino Zavanella and Hernando Ramon Suarez were responsible for project planning. The covered stadium, completed in two years and with a total of 41,000 seats, is one of the world’s most advanced facilities of its kind. The two 86 metre-high pillars that the steel ropes of the roof structure are definitely a striking feature.

For the exceptional span of the roof structure that measures more than 10 metres, the architects chose a honeycomb design using SWISS ® SP 160 to provide outstanding structural performance. Two profile layers were fastened to each other using screws based on a carefully calculated pattern. This provides an interlocked bracing system with outstanding rigidity and load-bearing capacity which serves simultaneously as a linear load-bearing element. This enables a lightweight yet efficient design for the large roof, resulting in considerable material and cost savings.

05 ST. JAKOB-PARK, BASLE The new St. Jakob-Park is regarded as an architectural milestone in the urban development of Basle. The overall concept was of an exemplary nature for further stadium projects. Good public transport links and a large number of attractive functions ensure economic operation. One of the stadium’s characteristics is the roof, which is ed by 74 structural steel beams with a length of 26.5 m. The ing roof structure is no longer recognisable after completion of the assembly work. The top roof seal is made from SWISS ® SP 105/345 trapezoidal profile. Perforated MK 80/500 A MONTAWALL® liner trays were chosen for the lower roof layer on of the acoustics.

The roof of the stadium with a total area of 17,850 m2 is ed by 48 structural steel beams between 32 and 39 m long and 10.65 m apart. The roof is a single-skin structure. Translucent polycarbonate boards are fitted to the inside edge of the roof over a width of 10-11 m to facilitate the gradual transition of light and shade in front of the grandstands. The stadium provides direct access to the Geneva RER service, its own railway station and the highway. This multifunctional complex also has a shopping centre with a car park, a hotel, TV studios, offices and conference centres, as well as a cultural centre.
