It's another adventure with Sydney! Today she and her sister, Maggie, will play like they are battling to see who will win and be crowned princess of a new land.
This battle axe is one of the weapons they will battle over. They will each pull on the ropes tied to the axe until one of them pulls it from the other's mouth. She will be the winner of this contest.
Sydney says, “Maggie you sure look elegant in your gold armor. How do I look?” Maggie responds, ““You look very dashing in your silver armor. It makes your white fur look even whiter than normal.””
Mom hands Sydney and Maggie the battle axe and says, “Ready, set, pull.””
Many minutes have ed and you can hear both Maggie and Sydney grunting as they pull on the battle axe. They seem to be at a stalemate with neither one able to pull the battle axe from the other.
Then all of a sudden, Maggie’'s rope breaks, and Sydney has the battle axe. Sydney is the winner of the battle axe contest.
Mom hands Sydney her sword because the next contest is the sword battle.
[Maggie and Sydney each take an end of the sword and Dad says, “One, two, three, pull!” The contest starts again. Sydney thinks to herself, ““Im sure glad this sword is made of plastic because it is touching my throat!””
Sydney and Maggie pull each other around the battlefield trying to get the best angle to pull the sword from the other’s mouth.
Sydney feels herself starting to get tired. Then all of a sudden, Maggie gives a strong yank, and Sydney falls backwards and loses her grip on the sword. Maggie is the winner of the sword contest!
Now the contest is a draw because Sydney won the battle axe contest, and Maggie won the sword contest. So Mom hands Maggie the sword and tells Maggie and Sydney that the battle must continue.
Sydney knows she has to act quickly because she is still tired from the last battle. When Mom says, “Ready, set, pull,”” Sydney gives a sudden yank. The sword slips from Maggie’s mouth. Sydney has two points to Maggie’s one. Sydney is the winner!
Sydney has a big smile on her face as Mom puts the crown on her head.
Maggie says, “Congratulations Sydney. Your crown sure is pretty. Thanks for a fun day.”” Sydney says, “Thank you too Maggie. It was a good battle.”
Sydney is happy the battle is over. She goes to her favorite place to rest, and that is her swimming pool.
The next day, Princess Sydney is walking around her land. She spots a baby wren sitting on the step.
Sydney says, “Hello down there, little bird.”” The wren says, “Hello up there big dog? Are you going to eat me?”
“Oh no.” Sydney exclaims. “I like all creatures. My name is Sydney. What is your name?”
The baby wren says, “Amy is what my mom calls me.”
Sydney asks, “Where did you come from?””
“I live in the apple house that hangs up high on the front porch. I like to watch all the things going on in nature. I got too close to the opening of our apple and fell out. I have been hiding by this big gray rock.””
Sydney laughs and tells Amy that the big gray rock is actually a statue of an angel.
“Amy, I’m very worried about you. My Mom has five cats.” Amy says, “Oh no, my Mom told me about cats. They eat birds! Maybe I can hide under this red dog toy.””
Sydney says, “No Amy. My Mom's cats will still smell you. We have to get you someplace safe. The angel will help us.”
Sydney says, “I know what to do.” She yells, “DAD!!”
“DAD! Amy fell out of her apple home. Please come and help her.”
Dad comes out of the house and puts Amy back in her apple home. He tells Sydney, “There Sydney, the problem is fixed. Amy is safe. I got a ladder and put her back in her home.”
Sydney says, “Dad, I want to look in Amy’s home and see her myself.”
Dad picks Sydney up so she can see into Amy’s home. Sydney says, “Hi, Amy. That looks like a comfortable nest you are sitting in.”
“It is comfortable. Thank you, my friend, for helping me to get back in it and keeping me safe. I want to introduce you to my sisters, but you have to go back down to the ground because they are hiding from you. They are afraid of you, Sydney.”
The baby wrens are hard for Sydney to see from the ground, but she sees them. Do you?
Amy yells to Sydney, “I’m sitting in the middle. My sisters are Angela and Terri.” All the babies are hungry, and their Mom is not back yet. Sydney wants to help feed the baby wrens.
Dad says, “Sydney, I took a milk jug and made a bird feeder for Amy and her family. I put a whole wheat bun in the feeder for them.””
Sydney says, “Dad, thank you for helping my new bird friends.””
Sydney says, “Dad, I have been lying here thinking about this angel. I think she must have saved Amy from getting hurt when Amy fell out of her nest. Did you look closely at what the angel is holding in her hands? I think she loves birds.”
Sydney tells Dad, “I want to give the angel my red dog. Red dog is my favorite toy.”
Sydney is happy. It has been another nice day for her and her friends.
The next day, Dad told me, “Sydney, I got you an agility kit.”
I asked him, “What is an agility kit?”
“It is a game for dogs.”
“But Dad, I don’t know how to play.”
“I will teach you today, Sydney.””
Dad says, “Sydney, I will take everything out of this box and set it up for you.”
“Dad, what is this square blue thing?”” “That is your starting point. Lie down in the middle of it while I finish setting up the game.”
“Dad, are you done yet? I’ve been staying in the blue square like you told me to do.”
“Almost, Sydney, I have to put down the finish line.”
“Okay, Sydney. The first part of the game, you have to run through the blue tunnel.”
“Ready, set, go.””
“Yeah, Sydney. You are going through the tunnel.”
“Sydney, why did you come back through the tunnel?”
“Because it was fun, Dad.”
“Sydney, you have to go through the tunnel and continue on to the next step of the game. The next step is the hurdle. I'll show you what to do when we get there.”
“Okay, Dad. I’ll race through the tunnel first.””
“Good girl, Sydney.”
“Now, here is the hurdle.””
“No, Sydney. You don’t go around the hurdle. You jump over it.”
Oscar says, “Come on Sydney. You can do it.” Oscar is the black lab, he is my brother. He has been cheering me on.
“Oh no, Sydney. You knocked the hurdle rung off the stand.”
Dad tells me, “That’’s okay, Sydney. Come back to me and try again.””
“Way to go, Sydney. You made it over the hurdle rung. Now continue on and cross the finish line.”
The finish line is the checkered flag. “Good girl, Sydney.”
“Thanks for another fun day, Dad.”
